This is how I've been feeling as well with this whole regional server thing. I love playing with people from all parts of the world, and have been dreading the thought of either moving with LS or being left behind and having lower populations during my peak time of playing. If I had a choice in the matter, I'd say NO to regional servers but it seems they're already here and are here to stay :/

No idea what I'll end up doing

Au contrare, I know Americans, Japanese, New Zealanders, Belgians, Germans, Brits, Australians and Brazilians that are in favour of a server labelled on the list as 'international'. And someone who says they're a Thai hooker, but I'm pretty sure they aren't.

Is not like they'd have a brazilian server, ever
Or that the population of such a server would be of people that even their own countryman would like to live with >_> So one picks what one could reasonably get.

That said- I shall move on wherever my friends move on to, that are what is important to me, not the rest of the world. You all should do the same.

yes, that's exactly how I feel too. I made friends from all around the world, and I loved it. And I made friends outside FFXIV that I hoped to meet into the game. Not to mention I'm a language student and I'd love to be able to practice japanese.
But I can't just go and join a NA server. I play a lot during afternoon, which is nighttime/morning in america, and by the time the server's going to get populated I'll be about to go to bed

It's a shame SE is allowing people to wall in with their Xenophobia once again.

I'll be looking for the most international server I can find and moving there is possible, because in all honesty I think the unfounded complaints about server lag are just hot air. I'll enjoy watching people in the Beta try and tell me about how much server lag they are experiencing and even at launch.

The lag was caused by bad code more than location, but it's a unwinable battle trying to convince people.

Regional servers are a nice add to the game, but since this is not an fps where every split second counts, and since ARR promises to be much more lightweight than its poorly optimized former version, I would believe there's plenty of people who would trade off the extra second of lag to be able to play a FF MMO like it's meant to be, in a big worldwide community.

I know everyone can go in any server, but very few, say, europeans will go in a japanese server if they know they will find little to no english speakers, or an american server where most probably they won't find people online too often because of different peak times.
What I'm asking is if there is going to be any server, beside the ones labeled "Japan" "Europe" and "North America", one officially labelled "International".
Nope. There are no plans for "international" servers, because all servers are international. You can play on any server at any time regardless of its physical location. Slapping a label on it doesn't change anything. It's still located wherever it is. Also, content finder will also work across servers and regions regardless of the server you choose.

Odds are, and this is what I hope they'll do, is simply list the servers in order of ping, without any labels of any kind other than the server name. the servers that will give you the best game performance will be listed first, but that would be the only identifying mark.

At least for the first few months, everyone will be stuck on the same ol' servers, so those will be as international as it will get.
Hopefully with time, the desire to move will drop and those ol' servers will become de facto international servers.

Doesn't seem to be the case

Q46: How will the worlds from 1.0 be separated with the shift to global data centers?

A46: During Beta Test phase 3, we are planning to have players choose worlds like the world transfer in 1.0. At that time we plan on releasing information on which world will be connected to which data center.
The data centers of the single servers will be available to us. And yes, it won't change where it will be, it's just meant to gather the people who want a worldwide community, knowing that other players from all around the world will move their character there. Just like there's a Roleplay server and like FFXI had at some point an "european" server.
