Didn't Yoshida say that at first, the position of producer doesn't lend itself to PR/hype generation? Could his answers be a side effect of this? (Not to say he hasn't given good answers, but rather, grounded answers.)

This is true and considering how far we have come with him I appreciate that he's laying it down like it is. The last thing we need is another disappointment from any angle. I understand it's important to build hype but I think FFXIV is a special case and that while Mr. Gamespot writer may not have been blown away by no promises to revolutionalize anything, at least there's no grand expectations that you can't meet either.
It gives room for ARR to impress or at least please at launch compared with 1.0's dismal reception.
Yes I found the article to be cautious if anything. It's like he wanted to like the game but at the same time he's leaving himself a way out so that IF the game tanks then he can say he was fair about it and didn't sing it's praises. In his boat it's a smart move for a site that caters to many types of gamers, many of which never touched a P2P MMO before. (If I look at those comments and considering I've been a member of that site for a long time....)I don't know what you guys read, but that seemed like a very fair and a pretty positive outlook on the game. A lot of the changes that have been implemented are pretty standard MMO stuff which seems amazing to us simply because of how bad 1.0 was. This game isn't really offering anything unique other than the FF name and charm. Which for most of us is good enough.
