Maybe they just took out the majority of Alchemy fish recipes that just landed you crystals.
Hopefully the fishing guild will buy your fish/trade for rewards and there'll be a fish ranking... Can't wait to find out!

Based solely on what we just read, no I don't think they will be. Of the gathering classes, fishing already was at the bottom of the totem pole when it came to supplying resources for crafting. So I wouldn't understand making them even more useless to the crafters, unless they are simply removing Fishing from the 'gathering/crafting' system entirely. But, that's just my take on it.
All I can think of is SWTOR and the companion system (like they referenced). For me, it's all gonna depend on the AI and how useless or useful they can actually be. I definetly don't mind it, and I think it's great for content that may require 4 players to enter so you can attempt to duo it with a friend or someone. Bigger challege and higher chance for reward? However, I expect the system to be quite buggy and full of exploit potential initially, so we'll just have to see how it goes.
I think this is good to cut some time finding players. You want an 8 man team? Well, Get 4 People with their Chocobos. This is actually a good system. With how the poster described Yoshida's comments it seems like that. "Going in the opposite direction" of supplying the economy.. Well that means he will be worse then he was in 1.0...
Me no likey.

Anyone want to comment on the chocobos taking up party slots or some such though :P
Yeah thats exactly that I was thinking - so long as the AI is customization enough or at least naturally intelligent it sounds pretty awesome. I'm a big fan of smaller parties, to each their own of course but 30 man raids and all the issues that can pop up drive me crazy. Give me a 4/8 man party with chocobos - hell yeah lolAll I can think of is SWTOR and the companion system (like they referenced). For me, it's all gonna depend on the AI and how useless or useful they can actually be. I dont know how much I like the idea of the auction house on the go. I suppose as long as there are not any features unique to the app that are unfair to players logged in I guess I wont bitch lol, might even buy it. But if there is like "notify me of item at this price" feature - then yeah.. gtfo app.
However the database aspect of the APP? Awesome! Would love to see your lore/bestiary cross over into your iphone as you build it, taking care of your pet on the go like a tamagotchi or dueling your friends at the much requested card game.
Exactlyand you can keep the party dungeon requirements for a much longer time without worrying about dungeons being impossible to run. Which is my biggest gripe with forced level sync X party member dungeons - that once the content is old you are screwed from enjoying it.

So fishing took off on a tangent.
I think all this means is fishing will retain more of the mini game status than the other DoL and DoH ( I recall the crafting vid where they removed the sub screen minigame from logging, i approve.). What this sounds like is you can fish for the joy of fishing AS WELL as using it as a crafting class. It will not be NECESSARY for crafting.you can enjoy it as a hobby with its own merits rather than simply feeling it's necessary for a crafting class.
Necessary is the word they used. I don't recall anything about "supplying the economy", once again, i feel this is over-analyzing what is actually said. The way i read it, fishing will not be as involved as the crafting/gathering classes by way of skills and needing to have the gathered resources as a NECESSARY material for crafting. Of course you will still be able to cook the fish and use it in recipes but you wont need to cook just fish, you can cook other things as well. Does that make sense or am i the only one who sees it this way?
The whole part "going the opposite direction" is what made me think fisher is losing even more economy power. And the part about being a relaxing event made me think they are enhancing their minigame.
However with such vague information I could see it argued either way. The way I naturally read it though is "Fisher = hobby and not needed for gathering, at least as much as it used to be"

you think 4 chocobos can replace 4 players? i think notmaybe 4 really bad players.
Imagine having 4 melee chocobos on coincounter, how well that would go.
Then again it said you can change their AI, so it's gonna be fun to see what you can do with that.
Personally i couldn't care less about fishing ^^ it was horrible in 1.0. i'm sure it would have been fine in ARR, if it was like other gathers. But since some people actually only play for fishing...then i guess they will make some minigame of it...and i'm sure there's gonna be plenty of other things to get money from than fishing...

Very excited for this app, would be really helpful. Hope gives the time and moon phases since those will actually be important now.
I'm sure using more and more chocobos in a dungeon will make it harder and add more challenge - but that would also be more reward. If you have less players, less loot to share :P
