    I usually just go for the SP since the additional rewards from increased appraisal ratings are somewhat random (and often disappointing?) despite going over 100 or even 200 on the appraisal.

    I've read that certain rare materials can be obtained through high appraisal rating on local leves, and once I was trying to get an antelope horn from a Goldsmithing leve based on the rumor. But going over 100 and twice over 200 on appraisal rating for about 6 leve cycles never gave me the item I wanted. ><

    I got 500 on a armorer leve or 2 and got the same rewards I would have gotten at like 100-200 rating.

    Appraisal was more important before they first update local leves, (when we used to have 1-2 less tries) now I don't see a big use for them since you're not very likely to get that much better of a reward and most over 20 leves now give guildmark rewards which aren't that variable.

    OK another question for the fishermen, wtf is wrong with fishing and why do i "lose the fish" so many damn times no matter where I fish and how I fish and what bait I use and I even have gathering armor on me to boost my skills. Why is it such a tedious process?? takes forever to get any SP off it unless you're doing leves and those are even a pain in the ass sometimes too.

    There's 2 things I look for when doing a craft leve, the SP and the possibility for the guild marks in the reward. Appraisal is the last thing on my mind. Also because of the bold synth nerf a while back (used to have better net gain on bolds all the time) I don't go for quality unless it's a synth outside of a leve I'm making an attempt to HQ for.

    I believe you hit gathering fatigue. SE has a system where you have an internal counter that reduces every time you gather something, after a point you get reduced gains and can fail more often even if you managed to hit your item.

    I believe you hit gathering fatigue. SE has a system where you have an internal counter that reduces every time you gather something, after a point you get reduced gains and can fail more often even if you managed to hit your item.

    what rank are you and where are you fishing, that also has ALOT to do with it if your in an area too soon

    Places I'm having trouble at are beginner locales like inside Limsa Lominsa and just outside near Bearded Rock at grade 1 locations. Its honestly trivial and I'm not stupid to overlook something like location and bait :P :P but its driving me insane cuz I really wanna pursue fishing and culinary in this game but fishing is giving me a hard time so far. Even Rank ~1 leves are being a pain in the ass for me.

    Just curious because I'm just starting crafting (rank 5 cook) and I'm looking at this and thinking the risk for going bold bold bold isn't as rewarding as the SP reward you get for going standard most the time - atleast with standard you give yourself a better chance of succeeding the synthesis and getting the SP whereas with bold you risk losing quite a bit of durability and losing the synth and SP...on the other hand if you manage to raise your appraisal to a high number is the risk worth *that* reward? Jesus Christ I'm glad I'm not a public speaker cuz looking over this paragraph again I barely understand what I'm even asking buuut I'm sure you guys get the gist of it :P
