I remember seeing that translation somewhere too, and I understood it the same way as you.

I will politely disagree. I like some objective dangled in my face when doing something. Grinding mobs is nothing but a chore and a real test of your patience which the general MMO player base outside of FFXI/FFXIV do not usually have. Rather you consider quests just another form of grinding is up to you, but it at least attempts to make you explore the areas of the game, and have reasoning behind it, rather it is silly or not. Any attempt to keep me immersed with the world is better than just sitting there hitting the enter key all day staring at the same mob, its utterly boring and I still ask myself how I had the patience to do it back in the day.

You are not wrong in your opinion at all, it is simply how I look at it.

yes... but the MMO before the RPG means its different, or it would be called a RPG. People seem to think the MMO just means alot of people logged on... you can try to take it as literal as you want to make these views seem better, but when the term was coined it involved playing with other people.

I feel like as long as "Multiplayer" is part of "MMO," solo should be an option, but not a priority in development.
If a game is meant to be solo-centric, it should stay single player with multiplayer built in.

I much prefer group play, but personally I do enjoy some solo play so I don't have to ONLY play when all my friends are on. If I want to log in to enjoy the game a few hours before it's time to do group stuff, I'd like to have something to do
Now, 100% soloability is not good imo

Good point, I too feel the same way as you regarding questing. But that is my opinion, to me questing allows me to explore new towns, meet the npc's and get a quick history from them regarding the new area's and get involved with the story more while I'm grinding XP for levels, makes me feel like I achieved something more than just grinding XP.

Some people like to stretch the wording to mean exclusively.. If I say I have a red car, that doesn't mean I don't have a blue car. It just means I have a red car.

MMO - doesn't mean there cant be solo content. So no one is misunderstanding anything if its titled an MMO but there is also solo content.

(Although I can get the preference people have, like some prefer X over Y and thats fine - I'm just saying no one is misunderstanding it when they add solo content in context of MMO).

Lots of soloing was in FF11, a large portion of my time was soloing, between any/all events I would hunt NM's or farm something. You just couldnt suck and solo at the same time, the two things didnt mix, which is why so many claim FF11 had no solo content... because they couldnt do it.

soloing a NM was one thing in ff11, but soloing for xp/level gains in ff11 was slow regardless of a persons skill, soloing a hard monster (IT) or (VT) would gain you 200XP? or so. Unless you were a BST or a BLU mage soloing in ff11 was not productive at all vs grinding in a party. And even later when they added the field books, which attempted at making soloing somewhat better, it still did not compare to grinding in a party, basically forcing most people to grind in parties to gain levels.
