What exactly is 'Skin tone'? I really don't know what I'm meant to be looking at. The top one looks better to me..

They are both shown in different lights, this makes a HUGE difference.
By skin-tone he probably meant skin definition, how clear it is that its actually skin (Not just a solid colour)
The difference isn't that phenomenal from the two screenshots he's shown really.
Personally, I don't see the fuss. This game looks great so far considering how much they're having to limit it.

Ohh I see, thank youThey are both shown in different lights, this makes a HUGE difference.

He's not just showing the difference between the lighting, as it is quite clear. The main difference is that, although they are in different lighting, the textures and skin definition on the alpha image looks "washed out", and that is quite noticeable. Others have mentioned that the video was on a PS3 platform, but even the pc version was similar. However, the lack of color (washed out appearance), or the shading on the character isn't defined enough. Basically, something is just different from both, and he is sharing this observation. They are both shown in different lights, this makes a HUGE difference.

The differences between alpha and 1.0 shading may be drastic or minimal, but there is a difference between them. I honestly did not have an issue with how alpha's shading was presented, as it was a success considering it's 'in development' phase. However, I am glad they toned up the details and shading to where 1.0 left off. Alpha simply did not feel like the original 1.0, as far as character detailing went. Now, it feels more like FFXIV, which I must say, I am happy about.
