Not being able to get over knee-high obstacles is incredibly annoying. This was never a problem in 2D RPGs, and it also doesn't cause much of a problem in the pseudo-3D environments of the PS1 titles, but presents a huge limitation in true 3D RPGs. The inability to jump has been a major problem with several FF games ever since FFX, which was the first truly 3D entry in the FF series.

There have been multiple FF games that included the ability to jump:

    FFX-2
    FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus
    FFXIII
    Kingdom Hearts

Okay, that last one was a joke, lol, but still, there have been FF games that included the ability to jump. (And KH feels more like an FF game than many actual FF games, lol!)

Oh god no. Having to open up a menu just to use a basic aspect of character movement is a very bad idea. Just imagine if walking worked the same way....

The FF "purists" deserve to be insulted, as their outdated philosophies are keeping the entire series stuck in the stone age. Seriously, back in the days of the PS1 and the SNES, the FF games were a HUGE name-brand. Now, they're just kind of average. The series needs to evolve and move forward, not cling to old traditions that are no longer effective in this day and age.
