exactly. they say they want to play that way, but i'm betting their main has multiple classes they play on it. this is just a thread made to get attention that serves no purpose other than to cause a stir.

The system is like this because, I think, SE would rather have us use one character per account(Or at least keep them to a minimum) instead of having piles of accounts with multiple characters on them. It's just easier to manage logistically. Yes there's going to be people out there who, if one class per character was the case, would pick their favorite and play that character exclusively, but there's also many people who would just make a character for each class on their account. Things would(And sometimes do) get cloggy server side; research historical precedent in any MMO you can think of where one class per character is the case. You'll find that there's plenty of occurrences of over population and server side lag etc. For the most part, looking back, FFXI's(I'll reference that game here because it's the only one offhand that I know of that allows multiple classes on one character) servers were very stable and AFAIK SE didn't have many problems managing character data.
I have within me the blood of legends!
If you want to have only one job, restrict Y O U R S E L F to only one job.

Common Sense is a language most misunderstood on the continent of the MMOForum
That would be so annoying... since crafting is a job class too even though its a crafting class. So imagine they make it you got to create a class or choose 1 crafting by character. you want to crafting things and have to mail it to each of the character to create the items then after send items to the character. Another point you are a BLM find Rare items from a primal but its gladiator and its EX/non tradable and when on gladiator get the blm one "What you gonna do" ..me is *open windows and throw pc* lol. And why so many people complain its long till get beta or release but people give ideas that if they do its will totaly change the game and have to wait another years before we play... WTH are you guys people who are trolling bad ideas just to make other not be able to play cos in many forum there alot of people who post but wont want to play anymore.
better do it like thousand other MMorpgs? hell no!
then you have again your thousand anonymous twink chars to which you cant identify yourself anymore... cant believe that anyone is against a jobchange system... really..
its the best what FF14 offers. some people are insane ^^
Sadly, this. The best we can hope for is that cross class skills stay within the first 25-30 levels and a lot more emphasis is placed on class/job-specific skills as well as balance the jobs so that one doesn't trump all others for the same role.
I would quite upset if it was decided that you could only level one class/job per character.
You can somewhat mimic the concept, though, by restricting yourself to one class; the option is entirely there. Technically, you don't need to set cross class abilities, but not having them would likely hamper your role and flexibility, and would certainly decrease the chances of playing with serious players. But if that didn't matter much to you, simply stick to one class. But that should be a play style option, not a requirement. The one thing I love about XI is that I can play on BLM or BLU or RDM, and my roles can vary. Too many BLM? No problem, I'll switch to something that will be more beneficial, and I wouldn't have to ensure that I've unlocked a certain area on an alt (which back then was a lot more stressful than it is today, comparatively speaking). It's why XI has been the only MMO I've settled with, and the main reason I was put off giving WoW a real try.
What really made it more amazing for me - having the ability to switch jobs - wasn't in the jobs I could "main" but the support roles I could acquire and the possibilities that were unlocked. RDM didn't usually sub NIN as part of it's main role, but doing so opened up a new world. XIV lets you set a variety of support abilities that you could unlock by levelling the respective job. It's both flexible and restrictive, with some cases being more one than the other, but it lets you add the role you are playing. The thing I don't like about it, is that jobs are restricted from certain classes and classes themselves aren't really good enough to be used on their own, but that's a different argument for a different topic.
From my point of view, having the ability to customise your character to play in a way that you want, regardless of whether you have 1 or 5 "main" roles, is what makes being able to swap classes/jobs that more appealing. Take that out, I could enjoy the game a little but no where near as much as XI; and as it's eventual successor, XIV needs to take those things that were very well received and build upon them.
How so? I'm not a fan of RP but surely if the world and the lore allow it than it's not an impossibility? You seem to be restricting your own RP experience by putting limits on yourself that don't actually exist in the game's world anyway.
Have you even played with any jobs? You need barely any sub classes to do great with a class let alone a job (where you're severely limited as far as cross class skills go). At most you need your class at 50 and your sub at 36 or so (and don't tell me that's hard to do because we all know how easy it was to level).
You level up two class to a point that does not seem hard. Then spam content finder to get a seal then do the relic quest and get yourself a relic. Then do that 7 more time then you can level up other job on the same 8 char or make 8 more char on other world. It much more easy to level and do content in ffxiv then ffxi every was so i don't see the issue there.
But why does that sound like a waste of time when you can enjoy everything in one char? oh because it does sound pretty dumb. I dislike that in every wow-clone i every played that why i only level up 1 char because i don't see the point of level up other one just to get best armor for him when i have to do it again on other char.
While in FFXI/FFXIV i can get armor all at the same time for the few jobs i enjoy. In FFXI i only play as samurai then during my last few month i play monk and got him black belt. In FFXIV it was DRG,MNK,BLM and the only reason BLM was there due to the fact that players forced you to play a BLM for CC/AV it was that or whm or tank which i dislike. While doing that i could get Darklight and primal weps for all my jobs at the same time. Even work on getting relic for BLM,MNK,DRG.
I don't know why people like to pretty much start over each time to level a job but you could pretty much do that in FFXIV. Seeing how it not as hard to get things done as it was in FFXI. In FFXI you had to do COP,SKY just to do endgame in FFXIV we don't have that so you can go ahead and do it if you guys want.
