The discrepancy is moreso to do with the English localization than a Japanese decision to make it more alluring or whatever. It's also "hyuran" in the French and German versions.

I liked where the conversation went though lol

I mean I started out one way and with some talks evolved it into oh hmm what the?

If Hyurs is a race and you call them Hyurian there is a natural expectation and wonderment is there Hyur the land mass Hyurland.

(Race != species, race is a subdivision of the species (or sub subdivision, if you consider homo sapien and homo erectus lol))

If Hyur is a specie (or just not called a race) then Hyuran is set like human and then each clan is actually a race and in the world of consistency its fairly normal (human/Hyuran- no locational information is really associated with human).

In the way it is now (every type is called a race ) then we can likely interbreed unless we are based off a different parent specie (but saying Hyuran would lend to things like asian, or russian, german, ect ect - and an expectation and a small inconsistency which I think choosing Hyur was a better choice).

If its the second way then SE could change "choose your race" to "choose your specie (or non race insinuating word)" and change clan to race (since you'd only have the same race in the same clan if you only bred with yourselves, changing clan to race would sound better lol)- then name it Hyuran no problem.

Roegadyn: Roo-Gah-Deen (long ooh and ee, not roh-ga-din)
ルガディン: Ru-Ga-Deen. (The Japanese pronunciation enforces the dev post below)

My personal pronunciations on the other names, with the original Japanese as indicators on correct English pronunciations. (Tip: you can hear the Japanese words through Google translate. It's pretty accurate.)

-Hyuran: Hyur-ran, rhymes with human. ヒューラン: Hyoo-Ran
Hyur: Hee-Yur in one syllable, rhymes with slur.

    -Lalafell: lah-lah-fell. ララフェル: La-La-Fe-Ru

    -Elezen: Eh-Leh-Zen. エレゼン: Eh-Leh-Zen.
The Japanese pronounce the first syllable as "Eh" resulting in the word falling off your lips more gracefully or "elvish-like." However, El-Leh-Zen with a harder L at the beginning is more comfortable in English (like Elvish: El-Vish), so that works too until we get a dev to differentiate.

    -Miqo'te: Mi-Koht-Te ミコッテ: Mi-Ko-Tte
The ' here indicates not only a harder, double t but a half-beat pause in Japanese. (Listen in Google translate). I think sounding out Mi-Koht-Te rather than Mi-Ko-Tte will help. (Sound out the T at the end of the second syllable instead of just the beginning of the third.)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some other interesting pronunciations based on dev posts:
    -Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn: Merril-Veeb Bloo-Fis-Veen
-Peiste: Peace-Tuh (Japanese sounds more like "Paste")
    -Goobbue: Goo-Boo
-Louisoux: no dev post as far as I know, but Japanese is ルイゾワ: Ru-Ee-Zoh-Ah. Indicates the French pronunciation of Loo-Ee-Swa
-Leve/Levequest: Leave or Leave-Quest (like in "I'm leaving" not "lev" as in lever).
-Eorzea: no dev post but Japanese is エオルゼア Eh-Oh-Ru-Zeh-Ah. English would be Aay-Or-Zee-Ah, not Or-Zay-Uh
I think Vilhem's post breaks it up nicely:

I officially love your post!!! o.o

Just one question (for the nerd that I am ^^; ): Where did you read it was "Merrilveeb"? I'm not doubting, I'm rather interested. I'm actually glad it's rather like this than "mearlveeb" (like in pearl) though I tend to pronounce "merril" like "mehrl" (so the "e" stays the same but I skip the "i").

I guess we can agree to disagree, either way I just call them straight up humans when in general conversation.

Wouldn't be a brodown anyway since I'm not a guy xD but everyone's entitled to their opinions. I'm not gonna go all /ragemad on you.

Thanks! It's put together using the first dev post in my original post. But now that you point it out, the "Merl" part would use standard English, which actually leads me to believe it's pronounced "Muhrl" as in Merlin or sterling silver. Like you, I've always read that part as mehrl like peril with a short ril at the end but unless there are English words with "erl" that don't rhyme with pearl I'm afraid I was a bit wrong in my first post! I'll edit my first post accordingly. ^^ So in the end we'd have:

    Muhrlveeb Bloofisveen

    Merl(w)(y)b

    W: A 'v' sound rather than a soft 'w'
Wyzn (white) would sound like 'vee-zin' (thanks Viridiana!)
Wilf (wolf) would sound like 'vilf' (rhymes with 'filth')

Y: A long 'e' such as the 'ea' in 'eat' or the first 'e' in 'Steve'
Alyr (alder) would be pronounced 'ah-leer'
Blyss (blossom) would be pronounced like 'bleece' (rhymes with 'fleece')

    Bl(oe)f(h)is(w)(y)n

OE: An 'ooh' sound such as the 'ue' in 'blue' and the 'oo' in 'I pity the foo'
Broen (brown) would be pronounced 'broon' (like 'broom')
Loef (leaf) would be 'loof' (rhymes with 'goof')

H: When paired with a vowel (before or after), almost always silent
Smhid (smith) would be pronounced 'smid' (rhymes with 'kid')

    W: A 'v' sound rather than a soft 'w'
Wyzn (white) would sound like 'vee-zin' (thanks Viridiana!)
Wilf (wolf) would sound like 'vilf' (rhymes with 'filth')

Y: A long 'e' such as the 'ea' in 'eat' or the first 'e' in 'Steve'
Alyr (alder) would be pronounced 'ah-leer'
Blyss (blossom) would be pronounced like 'bleece' (rhymes with 'fleece')
