Why they dont create a microsoft add-on font of final fantasy and that we can write like that in forum :P hahahahaha
You know, I just thought of something...
I remember a while back (not sure if it was from devs or if it was just speculation) there was mention of possibly having crafted items that had the signature of the player who made them. I think it'd be pretty cool to see our characters' names in Eorzean engraved on a sword or ring similar to what we're doing here. That, or let us upload or create some sort of signature image of some sort, akin to a Free Company or linkshell icon.
What do you guys think?
well, my signature already has eorzean script in it, so I guess I'm all set.
Good idea...You know, I just thought of something...

They confirmed we'll be able to sign crafted items, but I assume that only means a "[name]" in Latin characters as part of the item's menu description, a la FFXI.You know, I just thought of something...

I think it's a fantastic idea to be able to engrave metal as you suggested, but I have no idea how hard it would be to apply that to model textures in a way that would look quality without forcing too much extra data to need transmitting. I imagine simply overlaying text on top of existing textures wouldn't be too hard but I can see that coming out maybe a little fakey looking... I doubt we'll see such a thing happen.

More than the fakey look and data transmission, any such engraving would have to be rendered client-side (as the textures for the sword, etc. are rendered by the client) so it's another layer that would have to be handled by the client, per person, per item, etc. It seems a little too complicated, not to mention potentially resource heavy if you had 100 characters visible, all with custom-engraved weapons. Still, it would look amazing. :]They confirmed we'll be able to sign crafted items, but I assume that only means a "[name]" in Latin characters as part of the item's menu description, a la FFXI.

Ooo fun!
I figured I'd take a shot at it but since I'm terrible at art with a mouse, I used a permanent marker instead.
The heart is my coeurls' whiskers. Aren't I creative?!~
