Some additional thoughts/feelings after me playinbg some other mmos on this break...

While I completely understand your point OP, and for the most part agree, as other have said in this thread, ARR has already been '"WoWized"/standarized'. With Beta literally right around the corner, this topic would be better discussed after getting a feel for what 2.0 will be at launch. We can only hope that by 'bringing this game up to the standard' they've also included enough content to appeal to the wide range of player preferences ARR will face at launch. And if not, I'm sure they'll hear allllll about it.

My point isn't related to the game, but towards you. Every single post you made lately have a similar sentence, it's starting to be a meme and it's quite annoying.
The game got a direction, a direction you don't like. Ok ? Why you're still here then ? i can't understand why a product you really don't like still require your presence. IF you really hate it so much it's time to move on something more similar to your tastes don't ?

As I have mentioned on past times, if ARR turns out to be too WoWized and too commercial it will be done for me. I will probably quit MMOs or in any case check the new XI expansion. I have to admit I am not a fan of "modern" mmos. And your made a PERFECT example of zones... in modern MMOs you get pushed out of zones as you level, and they do not have any mayor meaning to you.

I still have very strong and fond memories of places like SKY, SEA, boyada tree etc

this is about it for me, i'm done with mmo's till they stop making them this modern way. if SE or any company for that matter wants to go back to games with the depth and enjoyment that i like then i'll come back. i have better things to do then to waist my time playing mmo's i can't enjoy and quit within months. i want to play a mmo i can enjoy for many years. if that isn't good enough to make them money then they can just feed on the people who enjoy that kind of mmo. they can't keep taking my money.

i've played every mmo since i quit ffxi, ...warhammer,swtor, tera, the secret world, allods, d3, gw2, dcu, apb, league of legends, beta's were enough to play the other mmo's and say hell no, like champions and tried old ass mmo's like maple story and runescape and eve but quit in a day, weather they might of been something i would of enjoyed they are too old and couldn't get into them. so, lets say i've not enjoyed any of them for more then a few months, even warhammer witch i played the longest of a year, it was only enjoyable for so long and leveling any new toons was a chore compared to ffxi. witch says a lot. it's been a good 5-6years now and not a one mmo that i can call good. and it's now starting to take it's toll, i'm tiered of getting excited about a mmo and then quitting in months and handing these asses my money cause everything they say is bs all the way to launch.

anyway, bring back stuff like sky, sea, HNM's, full linkshell events, party oriented everything, party grinds. or else you will never create a mmo that keeps the people who want to play games for years and not toss them out like they are offline disks.


tldr, bring back old school mmo's even if just one mmo and you will see it do better then any mmo out since ffxi and wow. also, screw all casuals. /end lol jk you know we love ya. but seriously.

I feel the same way for the most part. I spent/wasted a good amount of time (and money..) trying out abuncha different MMOs over the past cupl years, and left them all for the same reasons, just was bored with the style/feel and progression just didn't feel important enough for my tastes. Guess they just weren't my cup of tea (though I didn't try quite as many as you did). I'm still very hopeful for ARR though, but if that (and TESO) doesn't appeal to me, I've already decided to step down from the MMO genre for awhile. I imagine that a new game that appeals to me would show up eventually, as I am seeing more and more players that share our mindset pop up all over the interwebs with blogs/posts/etc. Some lucky game company will decide to take our money one of these days!

Maybe can use kickstarter to make a pure hardcore game. I don't think game companies will make games like they used to since the average gamer is now an adult with more real life responsibilities.

I love kickstarter so would be cool to see someone do it thru there. Not really looking for a purely hardcore game, but I guess that's based on how the word 'hardcore' is interpreted. I'm hoping that maybe the next generation of gamers, not current gamers, will look for something different in a MMO.. whether that will be for the better or worse we'll just have to see. By then we'll all prolly be playing with O. Rifts or on holodecks or something awesome hopefully too LOL.

I tired FTP lord of the rings and was deeply disappointed by the FTP model. The community was fun but the nonstop questing routine is so boring.
