That's one of the reasons I wish they'd consider re-adding the level caps to Promathia missions. It'd be nice to give nubs something to do with their low-mid level times rather than just spam FoV pages to "get to the endgame"in XI you had quite a lot to do as you're leveling especially in terms of storyline content and misc activities like Assault and the like (it's why there's level cap options, to let people not at end-game partake in it) and why end-game was the ultimate goal but not only goal where the devs will want to rocket you to end-game asap. They need to balance the beginning, middle and ending. XI in late years was top heavy due to them focusing on end-game, with ARR if they do that they're just making the same mistake so many others have been making lately with their game and we seen the outcome.
I think ARR will be just fine and once beta starts ppl will be too busy testing/playing to post much on this forum. Ive been playing Tera while waiting since late Dec and have played almost completely solo am lvl 53/60 and all I can say is that it is alright as a game but since I dont do any of the endgame nexus or wutever or even party I cant comment on the mmo side of it so to speak.
I do however, see other ppls point of view but largely it seems to come down to ppl play the games they like period. They will defend the games they like period. So I suggest kindly to any and everyone here find the game or games you like and stick to them. Like them for what you like them for and stop all the damn comparison (wow clone) talk because it is only going to affect you and your impression of games good or bad.
I admit Im enjoying tera for what it is but my heart and my "want to play badly game" is FFXIV ARR period.

This is really the important part for me to play ARR. Yoshi-P seems to realize this is an important thing too, so I hope he doesn't let people down in this regard. I know younger players might be accustomed to WoW playstyles and just mash through the dialog, but I want to take my time and enjoy a good story.
Sadly, it's hard to get around this when you have a quest based leveling system and you have to design several quests. The best they can do is just ensure that those quests have some actual meaning. The one they showed in one of the Alpha videos was a good example. Apparently some of the monsters were defiling an area where people were bringing flowers to mourn the dead from the 7th Umbral Era. At least as a 1.0 player, that has some meaning to me.
Tera is not a clone of WoW... all it has in common is questing, and that's not something WoW introduced to the world.
This thread isn't any different than the 50000000000000000000 ATTACK OF THE WOW CLONES OMG!!!1111elven1111!!! QQ threads that came before it. You people....
It's also stupid that anyone could think SE would do away with its storytelling... one of the trademarks of the company/FF series.
Any quest (unless it has some terrible low drop rate) is better than leves.
Q20: Will we ever be able to send tells from within an instanced area?
A20: While the feature can be implemented, it’s currently masked. It’s currently masked because we would like to prevent players from harassing each other just because they know they would never party together in the future. We will continue to monitor the situation carefully as we move forward.
I think the Japanese take alot of pride in what they do and the uniqueness of FF. I think they will deliver and shut us all up.
"The one mistake they're likely going to make is unlike other MMOs, FF games being turned into an MMO needs to follow the one principle that the game starts when you start, not start at end-game like so many MMOs the past decade. in XI you had quite a lot to do as you're leveling especially in terms of storyline content and misc activities like Assault and the like (it's why there's level cap options, to let people not at end-game partake in it) and why end-game was the ultimate goal but not only goal where the devs will want to rocket you to end-game asap. THIS. THIS. THIS!!!! I don't think any of the other MMO's GET it. I want interesting and complex game experience to begin the moment my character is created. The main story of FFXI began from the beginning of your character's journey. And it scaled with you. Along with sidequest. The Rank 2-3 dragon fights were MENACING to me at the time. And I was only level 20. XI did this well and I haven't played a game that has caputered this since.
I don't want this to be an XI clone. But if they could PACE the games better... I'd be happy. That's the BIGGEST thing XI did right and I wish it was seen in other MMOs.
I don't see how you guys can look at what the team did with the 1.0 storyline (GC, Garleans, primals) and the cutscenes we've gotten (mission cutscenes like killing Nael, destroying the Lunar Transmitter) as well as the amazing End of an Era video they gave us and actually think this team doesn't know what it's doing.. seriously, have some faith. Just because it plays differently doesn't mean it's a piece of crap
Level 25 Ifrit and level 45 Garuda were pretty menacing man, of course it would have been better if they were level capped"The one mistake they're likely going to make is unlike other MMOs, FF games being turned into an MMO needs to follow the one principle that the game starts when you start, not start at end-game like so many MMOs the past decade. in XI you had quite a lot to do as you're leveling especially in terms of storyline content and misc activities like Assault and the like (it's why there's level cap options, to let people not at end-game partake in it) and why end-game was the ultimate goal but not only goal where the devs will want to rocket you to end-game asap. I have to admit, im really skeptical about ARR.
What the Alpha had was already better than the stuff from V.1 by a long shot.
I know they never had enough time but the "oldshool" Quest grinding kills it for me.
Thats one thing i began to love about GW2, nothing felt like a chore.
Exploring would give you a nice xp and exploring the whole map even more reward, in doing so you will encouter alot of events and those are actually fun.
No need for extra planning and no need to invite and form a party, everyone can help anyone and leveling felt much more of a natural progression.
I love the Class and combat system and i didnt think that it would work that good and dodging and moving can save lives.
As much as i love the typical FF story and Art and damn...Gridania looks awesome and beautyful.
I fear that the Gameplay will be just medicore or "standart" and lvling will be just quest grinding and i just had enough of that and no beautyful art and story will pull me into this.
And WvWvW in GW2 is just epic...unless youre like 5 people against enemy Zerg...
