Homage Locations and Zones

Well, there is constant references to a 'Crystal' in some of the trailers, so who knows? Maybe a 'Great Crystal' zone could fit into ARR without too much trouble.

As for areas I'd like to see, I can't say I'd like to see any earlier zone really in ARR - I'd rather SE come up with original zone ideas than simply recycle old areas for 'fanservice's' sake. But that's just my personal opinion.

If SE implements any homage zones or locations, I think they should always be "original." I would hate to zone into an exact copy of any previous FF. The coliseum is a perfect example of how it's a recurring thing from previous FFs, but it's our original version of it. Similarly even the crystal tower, while more specific, is our version of the crystal tower. I expect the gold saucer to follow suit and not look exactly the same as the one in VII.

It's also why I'd like the XIV version of recurring places made in-game first, like a library or chocobo forest. These are things that evoke the FF series as a whole and not just throwback to one specific FF.

However, I also think SE should be careful not to overdo it and do it just for fanservice's sake.

I expect there to be many more unique zones per closely fan serviced zone / location, and many more "like a fan service" zones then an actual fanservice zone.

So while we may have 40 locations listed 3 may be fanserviced and a few more designed in honor of classic zones.

Also somethings are easier to fan service then others like dungeons or places (like the chocobo farm that sort of looks like FF7 farm in structure and hardly takes up a whole zone of work).

I really hope to see a memoria mind bending zone, where you just are like LOL WUT!?

Yeah, in terms of Memoria, I wasn't expecting a replica of it. Just something similar to it that would fit within the scope of the lore of the world. The Promyvion areas always gave me that eerie feeling when I went into them; (the music really helped with that too) I'm looking for something that'll hopefully have that much of an impact with the mysticism of an area like Memoria.

A small town with very peaceful music in a snowy area like Esto Gaza from IX. Even to this day, I'm still kind of obsessed with that little town's BGM.

I'd still like to discuss what our favorites are and I'll move / update the tally up to the top and start linking to peoples posts, but I hit the 20 image limit lol. I suppose next time I'll be smarter and reserve a few posts.

I'm not done tallying but right now 9 is doing pretty good lol. Which is funny because 9 was designed as a fan service to past FF games, so fanservice of the fanservice. Us SE fans love our fanfare :P lol

A Hall of the Gods-type place probably wouldn't work in FFXIV though lore-wise unless it was there for similar lore reasons as the FFXI version (it was actually the ancient Zilartian gateway to their blasphemous floating citadel of Tu'lia after all, and was connected with the rest of their ancient relics, like the Crystal Lines, the teleport Crags, Delkfutt's Tower, Fei'yin and Ro'maeve). So unless SE has plans to erect a huge floating zone like Tu'lia it would be quite pointless.

Unless they make it that it has something to do with the Algan (sp?) Empire that is.

PROMYVION OR BUST
This was my sanctuary; I'd come in here alone on Dancer and solo around for hours at a time, just relaxing and farming beastmen seals. The look, the feel, the music... everything about it was soothing and it was my favorite place in Vana'diel to be. If I had the ability to do something similar in ARR, I'd be one happy Moose.
