If SE implements any homage zones or locations, I think they should always be "original." I would hate to zone into an exact copy of any previous FF. The coliseum is a perfect example of how it's a recurring thing from previous FFs, but it's our original version of it. Similarly even the crystal tower, while more specific, is our version of the crystal tower. I expect the gold saucer to follow suit and not look exactly the same as the one in VII.
It's also why I'd like the XIV version of recurring places made in-game first, like a library or chocobo forest. These are things that evoke the FF series as a whole and not just throwback to one specific FF.
However, I also think SE should be careful not to overdo it and do it just for fanservice's sake.
