Watching violence has never been linked to causing violence. Playing video games has never been linked to antisocial behavior. Just because someone survived the Holocaust did not make them prone to violence. Being abused at home (regardless of age) does link to later violent behavior. Genetics makes a person more likely to develop antisocial behavior. Religious beliefs are a strong cause of acting out.

So the world does not change due to video games.

I love asking what the word means to people that use that word like that. Either they can't answer because they have no idea what they are saying or they just put general "coolness". A word for coolness..

Oh well there is always words being destroyed as time goes on lol, like "gay". Which was a sort of happy freedom attribute a person could have. Even more recently its being used to refer to things that are lame or stupid. Which is an unacceptable mix of trending.. Happy, Homosexual, Stupid/Lame.

Some word trends are just embarrassing lol

Seen on twitter: "Japan had 11 gun deaths in 2011. I forget, do they play video games over there?"

Hell I remember back in the 80's when Dungeons and Dragons (Yes the board game) was being blamed for people going crazy for cocoa - puffs.
Its easier to blame video games then the real issue - which is dealing with the mental aspect of human behavior. ( Or in other words taking responsibility for ones behavior and actions. )

Common sense in society seems to be in short supply while stupidity seems to be in in high demand with law makers.

It's not stupidity. Investigating the latest controversy in "outrage-aholic" societies is a very effective way to get press coverage and gain supporters. And the opposite, saying no and/or presenting data and studies to the contrary, comes across as ignoring the will of your constituents. A lawmaker doesn't even have to effect real change, just hold investigations or maybe draft a bill if the interest lasts that long.

As far as this story: The mob outrage mentality doesn't care which video game it is. It's "close enough", even if the actual game had been a non-SE game. Ever hear of Jim Jones or the expression "drink the Kool-Aid"? It was actually Flavor Aid. "Who cares?" you say? Yeah, same thing here.

Disclaimer: My thoughts and views do not represent those of my employers.

As a games programmer who works on the exact kinds of violent games that are once again drawing the ire of the public, I am in full agreement that the games are not the problem. Games are art. I'm glad that people enjoy the art that I help to create, and I want people to enjoy what I help to create. However, if enjoying our work is making you uncomfortable, we can't help you with that. It's not about whether it's our job to help you with that, it's literally we cannot tell you what the right answer is for you. That's a discussion that can only be held between you and the mirror.

I can only tell you my answer, which works for me: It's all fantasy, an escape, an opportunity to step outside of who I am and be someone else for a little while, until I come back to who and what I am. I went home and played through Bulletstorm one weekend. I thought the game was hilarious. It's rare to see a game so openly focused on gratuity. I had a blast playing it. One other evening, I went home and played through Journey. I found the game to be very emotionally affecting, and I found myself replaying it several times over. But in the end these games are just fantasies; they can help me explore my psyche, and that can help me decide who I want to be, but they can't tell me who I am.

Edit: One more thing I wanted to add, upon reflection. We're not holding a gun to your head. If it bothers you that you like our creations, and you are worried about the effects of that... well, stop buying our creations. Asking us to stop making the things you're buying because they might, in excess, be bad for you is a little like asking the great state of Vermont to stop producing cheddar cheese. Which is, of course, ridiculous.
