Nope, it was a single journalist from a Munich newspaper, not the German press.
IGN even pointed out that the FFXIV relation to this case was rather weak and unfitting.
The journalist said he got the FF account related information from the police, while the police report didn't mention the FFXIV account at all.
Some doof mentioned the killer played final fantasy online and he thought "surely that is where only people stab others repeatedly and in psychotic fashion! To be fair, its a tabloid. Tabloids aren't known for the truth. One picture of any of us and they'd spin a tale about how we were leaving our husbands and taking the baby with us.
