I fear they'd quite soon become mandatory in our inventories. Even if you don't plan to use them, in the event of an odd chance, when you should have them, just to avoid going back to town to buy them or get them off your retainer.

1.0 mobs were fine. Sight + sound is enough in my opinion and frankly the only ones that feel organic to me as a player. I either have to actually walk so I don't make sound, and heaven forbid I accidentally run (Treants!!!) or I have to navigate myself behind the mob's back to keep out of their sight. Somehow popping a potion and goin "Ok, so now I don't smell" does nothing for me.

1.0 had 3 kinds of agro.
    Sight.
    Sound.
    Smell.

All of which are easily avoidable if you know the mechanics.
Getting all the 1.0 aetheryte solo was really easy.

    That was Elezen only aggro.

As far as I knew, we only had Sight/Sound aggro in XIV. That is news to me. Hell, even XI didn't have smell aggro, mobs would just pursue you based on smell. Had to deodorize or they'd chase you forever!

Mobs like Boars and Molbol (there are others) are smell.

To avoid you would need to walk at a short distance from them... running and getting too close they would smell you.

I just thought those were true-sound.

Hmmm. . . . it never occurred to me they had smell. Not a very intuitive mechanic. Unsure how running affects smell, but I guess there should be some kind of proximity detection, as in you can't just walk into a mob, even a totally blind one, and still not get detected.

They were not true sight/sound, cause they had a definite agro range.
They would agro if you moved too fast or got too close no matter how they faced.

    This is smell.

When you move faster you move more air around you and spread your scent around more.
This works in real life too :-)

Oh, ok. Gotcha now. It makes more sense when I replace the word "smell" with something else but yeah, now I understand what you mean. I guess my irk is with the word itself, rather than the mechanic in this case, since I'm pretty sure there are mobs who don't even have a nose let alone a sense of smell

Either way, I see no use for deodorizing items still. They can be avoided with walk & sound based on distance/proximity and each mob's proximity would def fit into their bestiary entries along with whether they're sight and/or sound aggro.

LOL! Whoa how fail is that! Ppl actually didn't enter zones because they were afraid of using oils/powders?? Extremes? Yeah right.. I get you didn't like invis/sneak items in XI, but there was nothing wrong with the system, your friends were just terribad. Can't even feel bad saying that, cuz after 6 years of XI.. I have never heard sumthing so ridiculous.

I don't think ARR needs sneak/invisible, but I think it would a good thing to add if they had the time. I'd imagine alot of content has already been designed/planned around not having those ablities, so I'd doubt they could just add them in without revising alot of content. As for the OP, to me it just seemed like Fern was just making an XI reference, just to make an XI reference. But, here's hoping to it being more than that!
