Unless they make both options available no one will be happy. It's the same way when it comes to the exp parties/solo questing. Either way one group is going to be pissed off if there isn't a middle ground.Animation lock or Backpedaling? Can you have Animation Lock with Backpedaling? Can you not Backpedal without Animation Lock? People Complained about animation lock for messing up a lot of their timing. Now people are Complaining about Backpedaling ( In which I don't get what's wrong with it I play Aion with Backpedaling and I don't find myself getting frustrated over it. Then again not everyone is like me so this I have to accept.
What would be a good compromise so that most people would be happy?
Yeah sadly, but which is more preferred " Animation lock" or " Backpedaling" not sure if there's even away to not have Animation lock and not have Backpedaling. Backpedaling doesn't really bother me. Now Treadmilling I hate ( where your feet doesn't feel like it's moving forward. Not sure if Backpedal and Treadmill relate to each other but, I do dislike Treadmilling.
Unfortunately, in this game, having both likely won't be a huge detriment. In some games, being able to instantly turn around like that could cause problems.
I did say unfortunately, not unfortunate for everyone. IE I dislike the ability to instantly flip direction without having to "turn" in some fashion, but it physically turning or flipping the camera prior. So it's my opinion. Was one of the things I disliked in 1.0 regardless of what control method I used.
I know the common excuse here is that after a short while, people will get used to the new controls and start using them without issue, but the same can be said for the reverse, and people used to other WOW-type controls can pick up on the FFXIV controls in just a few minutes. I think little things like a slightly different camera control and movement help set this game apart from all the others. I was never upset at the XIV controls, and I really didn't think it was a big issue until they changed.
I don't want people to think of XIV as WOW with Final Fantasy themes. I want them to feel it is of a different breed and plays differently, but is just as much enjoyable. Little things like these camera and movement controls are needed to set the game apart, in my opinion.
"There's a time when a man needs to fight, and a time when he needs to accept that his destiny is lost, that the ship has sailed, and that only a fool would continue. The truth is, I've always been a fool."
Do explain.
Because from my experiences using your mouse to turn once used to it is just as fast as pressing a single button, allbeit more convoluted than it should be.
For some, yes, it is just as fast, but how many? You still have to do through the motions of turning your camera around, dealing with the scene shifting and such. Not just instantly flip, preventing rear targeting abilities from working.
In the minds of some, it trivializes things. Opposite your view of not having it being convoluted.
