Can't really relate to the OP. I've shown the gameplay vids to outsiders who never played 1.0 and even they say the animations look like something out of a final fantasy game.

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
I don't care about the flash so much as I care about what the flash looks like. I want to be able to see or hear some patters that identify the ability so I can understand who is casting what. Someone shoots a bow? There better be some arrow animations. Someone casts fire? I better see flames. Someone does a lancer move? I better see a polearm-shaped slash across the screen. If it's just a bunch of swirls and sparkles and bright lights while people keep grunting in pain while nobody is getting hurt, then i'll be mad.
"There's a time when a man needs to fight, and a time when he needs to accept that his destiny is lost, that the ship has sailed, and that only a fool would continue. The truth is, I've always been a fool."
The common attacks are too flashy & too fast, making the stronger attacks seem insignificant gives the feeling of a hack & slash game. Instead of giving them more flash make them feel more significant

oh really? dragonfire dive isn't flashier than full thrust? most skills are 4sec GCD generic skills. and you havn't seen what most stronger skills look like anyways. not to mention NEW skills you don't even know about.
how would a slow and non flashy attack feel? totally pointless; they are called auto attacks.
This thread gave me cancer
so you like fireworks to accompany the weakest of special attacks. you like fire to rain as you do you 10 hp of dmg.oh really? dragonfire dive isn't flashier than full thrust? most skills are 4sec GCD generic skills. and you havn't seen what most stronger skills look like anyways. not to mention NEW skills you don't even know about.

You can disable those effects I believe anyway. So people who like them, keep them. People who don't, don't.
Never a shortage of people who think they know what everyone wants lol..
To each their own I say. Let people enjoy what they enjoy.. Diversity and options is what we need.

you still used the skills you got at lv1, at lv 50; so there's not much point in talking about *weakest* and *strongest* attacks. there's generic skills that are all quite equal, aside from having various effects. they are good in certain cases, in others not. Dragonfire Dive would be the weakest option in some cases. while the *weakest* can be the most optimal; so your argument that lv 1 skills are weak, and shouldn't be flashy, is illogical.
And if you wanna put it that way, the skills need to be flashier, not less so...
The attacks I used in 1.0 to play are irrelavent and have nothing to do with this thread. What im getting at is the flash should match the intensity of the attack. I donno why you keep bringing up dragonfire dive, that is the strongest attack drg has and should be a spectacleyou still used the skills you got at lv1, at lv 50; so there's not much point in talking about *weakest* and *strongest* attacks. there's generic skills that are all quite equal, aside from having various effects. they are good in certain cases, in others not. did you play XI? it had levels of intensity for its attacks and animations to go with it. the flash got progressively better not all at once from the start.
