PVP gear

We don't know anything about the rewards (if any) yet. You don't know that the gear in the game is going to have PvE and/or PvP only stats on them. In the current conversation, it is being argued that doing this is not necessary as long as proper balance is achieved.

That doesn't make your comments entirely irrelevant, but I think that's what you were trying to say. Yes, PvP activities and PvE activities will demand somewhat different stat-sets from the players, but that doesn't mean that the gear you've earned in PvE will be useless for PvP or vice versa- it only means they might not be the best- but you need SOMETHING to start with if you're doing either one for the first time.

The PDF's clearly state there will be pvp only gear and skills and such.

Two PvP venues, Coliseum and Frontlines, to be released after version 2.0. Unique zones to be created so
as not to affect non-participating players. Release of PvP-specific abilities, gear, and ranking.
