    I'm the complete opposite.

I want to be able to use the pve gear I have worked hours and hours to get to kill other real players in PvP.

You say it becomes unbalanced and etc, and while that can be true, pvp gear does the exact same thing. Any time there is a disparity of gear between players it becomes unbalanced whether they have pvp stats or not. Having to get pvp-only gear sort of makes it feel pointless and monotonous. Also it's usually considerably easier to get pvp gear then pve, as it's usually just a time investment (ie show up for X number of pvp battles and get points to buy ezmode gear). I don't want the pvp section just to be a side game where you get a few free pieces of gear to battle against other players. I want to bring my hard earned pve gear into the battle arena and fight against players that can stack up against me or falter below.

I hate pvp gear and feel it brings nothing to the game whatsoever. It doesn't equate to balance and doesn't add anything to the game. I usually play hardcore pvp in MMOs and I love to pvp. I feel pvp gear is just a way for people who don't want to play pve, a way to get gear easier and curbstomp noobs faster ;p

Honestly, I don't know why restrictions on gear would matter. To be competitive in PvP you will need an entirely different setup than being successful in PvE. Regardless of where the gear is acquired you will need two sets. As a Final Fantasy game, it stands to reason that your ability to identify the necessary strategy and be prepared to implement it is the true test of Skill.

A player who spends their time developing their solo abilities outside the Coliseum should be well suited to fight in the Coliseum. I see no reason to penalize them for that. It's not like crazy well geared level 50s are going to be stomping newbies. They will be fighting other level 50s who should have had adequate time to gear up, unless they PLed in which case they deserve to get ruined.

Yoshida has already stated his intent to reduce the overall impact gear has on a fight. Combat skill and preparation should be more than enough to over come a player with superior gear, even if it came from PvE.

I agree there should be gear rewards for PvP, but restricting it's use to PvP just to balance restricting the use of PvE gear would make it useless to anyone but hardcore PvP players.

I know what some of you are thinking, "That was the players that were enforcing that you go PvP to build raid gear." and yes that is true. As a developer, it is their job to foresee such things and prevent situations that will hinder and interfere will a player's fun, even if that is from players.
The design flaw here is pretty obvious. The best gear for any class in any game should never come from PvP. That being said, Final Fantasy XIV has a built in fall back to prevent this type of thing from happening.

Using a "Job" in PvP should and likely will = instant loss. PvP will likely result in the best or close to the best Solo "Class" gear in the game.

PvE Raiding will be built around "Jobs" and will reward the best Party "Job" Gear in the game.

The other two significant sources of gear, Crating and Notorious Monsters, will rightfully have gear that rival Endgame or PvP gear.

Many players don't want to do PvP, so they shouldn't be forced to play it, just because it gives the best equipment. On the other hand there should be some rewards for PvP. So it would really be good to draw the line at PvE & PvP gear.

I also think PvP Arena should be restricted to classes. That gives more freedom to improve jobs in PvE.

I like the restricted to classes idea, hadnt crossed my mind, but id wait to pull the trigger on that decision until we see how they have done jobs in ARR cuz from seeing/playing alpha i have to assume that Jobs skills will be a bit different, if that difference makes it more advantageous to include in pvp then i say include it, but as it right now with1.0 in mind i really like the idea,

plus having a gladiator in PVP! i cant see a better use of the class lol

Edit: Also interesting idea, if they do make only classes for pvp then they could have AF design(ie Gladiator looking like a Roman Gladiator or something like that) for the PVP gear design.

I was talking to my buddy yesterday(friend i use to PVP alot with on WoW, and am currently trying to talk into playing ARR lol) and he came up with an interesting idea for a PVP event.

In WoW they had a battleground called Arathi Basin, where basically there are an odd number "nodes" that your side has to capture, as soon as you cature the node you start collecting "resources"(there would be untargetable NPCs walking around who were supposedly collecting these resorces) and the team who reached a certain number first would win.
Edit: this is a King of the hill style fight, couldnt think of name when first posting it.
    http://www.wowwiki.com/Arathi_Basin

His Idea was to have something similar to this but instead of untargetable NPCs you would have DoH and DoL collect the "resources" and the DoW players job would be to protect both the DoH/L and the "node" from capture, you would have to have control of the "node" to be able to collect the "resources".

I liked the idea quite a bit because it reminded me alot of a PVP version of Hamlet Defense.

That's not a design flaw. There is no harm in good gear coming from PvP as long as the effort required to get it is balanced with that of the comparable PvE gear. Comparatively, this typically means the best PvP gear requires a larger time investment than the best PvE gear. Done properly, people can go for either one and not feel they are at a disadvantage for doing so.

I hate pvp gear and feel it brings nothing to the game whatsoever
I love pvp gear and it brings plenty to the game if implemented properly. But whether you love it or hate it, the simple fact remains: People are attracted to each ride on this MMO theme park because of the prizes they win by participating in the attractions. If an attraction has no prizes, nobody will ride it.

It is pointless to have PvP in the game at all if there is nothing to gain from doing it.

There are plenty of ways to ensure that PvP participants must put up their fair share of effort to get rewards. There is no reason that PvP has to reward nothing or give inferior rewards just because you're not battling AI.

well said, i had stopped trying to argue with the anti pvp gear people on this tread in fear of sounding dick like or mean, i think you made a very valid point without sounding like either. thank you

I'm not sure if PvP gear has ever been implemented properly. I've always been thoroughly unimpressed.

I agree there has to be rewards for participating, that is obvious...

They don't have to reward you in PvP gear however, if implemented properly [to use your own words].

Materia earned though PvP could be affixed to gear to give it certain stats when fighting other players. thus the ability to make any piece of gear PvP gear.

no need to separate gear based on what you'll be doing, everybody will have access to all gear in the game, plus if a balance issue ever comes up a gear or gear set doesn't get nerfed for both sides of the playing field.
