I'm not sure if PvP gear has ever been implemented properly. I've always been thoroughly unimpressed.

I agree there has to be rewards for participating, that is obvious...

They don't have to reward you in PvP gear however, if implemented properly [to use your own words].

What else would you get? Gil? that would be a pretty lame reward, and since you could just buy PvE gear with it, it's still the same as just gving people gear in the first place basically.

WoW did a decent enough job. I know we all hate on WoW constantly, but wee need to face the fact that there are things it didn't doo badly. PvP is one of them. PvP gear in WoW is not broken, and it's not better than the best raid gear. Beyond that, as I've mentioned multiple times before, PvE and PvP gear are often very different, because the needs for each environment are not exactly the same- But in some cases it does help some people who haven't been hardcore raiders since day one get their foot in the door (by having a high enough "gear score" to join the raiding scene, which I honestly found difficult otherwise) to do raiding.

Honestly, why should you feel bad, be jealous, or upset, or whatever that someone in your party has gear they earned from PvP on? What makes their achievements any lesser compared to yours? It is just as hard if not harder to compete at the top level in WoW PvP than it is to beat the hardest raid at any given time.

(The main reason I quit wow was the raid scene was too oppressive (far worse than XI) and difficult to get into for the average player- PvP ended up being the only thing i could do- I want to enjoy both.)

The Only issue i ever had with PVE players wearing PVP gear in raids/instances in wow was that it usually(not always) those players were terrible and would get themselves killed or worse. When i played i always prefered a player wearing weak PVE gear over them wearing PVP gear.

Though i agree with the fact of in wow that getting the lower tier of PVP gear helped ppl get into PVE faster, i hope they design it so that as yoshi-p said, PVP wont impact PVE(like it did in wow).

He means "you won't be able to go around the world and kill people who don't want to PvP.' Even if PvP was just a minigame with no reward, it would have an (albeit trivial) effect because people playing it wouldn't be available to do PvE with. Letting people earn gear doesn't really have a negative impact except for the occasional egotistical moron who thinks he must be awesome because he got something from PvP. But these kinds of people are a problem whether or not PvP exists.

The rewards just need to be balanced carefully. If this was the Tanaka team, I'd be kind of fearful of it. But This is Yoshi-P, whom has prior experience with PvP (unlike the former who had never played an MMO before making FFXI), so I'm pretty confident it can be done right.

PVP gear will only work in pvp cause it will have pvp only stats and PVE gear will only be good in PVE cause it will have PVE only stats so using PVE gear or PVP gear in the situation they not called for is gonna gimp you.

We don't know anything about the rewards (if any) yet. You don't know that the gear in the game is going to have PvE and/or PvP only stats on them. In the current conversation, it is being argued that doing this is not necessary as long as proper balance is achieved.

That doesn't make your comments entirely irrelevant, but I think that's what you were trying to say. Yes, PvP activities and PvE activities will demand somewhat different stat-sets from the players, but that doesn't mean that the gear you've earned in PvE will be useless for PvP or vice versa- it only means they might not be the best- but you need SOMETHING to start with if you're doing either one for the first time.

The PDF's clearly state there will be pvp only gear and skills and such.

Two PvP venues, Coliseum and Frontlines, to be released after version 2.0. Unique zones to be created so
as not to affect non-participating players. Release of PvP-specific abilities, gear, and ranking.

That is something we have to take into consideration. Most of us already don't have enough room to hold the stuff required for our jobs.. Being all 50 in dom/dow and needing full gear sets for each of them, is more than tedious.
Not to mention crafting items.. More gear sets to take up more room? I'd prefer not.
I hope they take that into consideration.
