Didn't yoshi P say something to the effect that they weren't going to cont. the "echo" story line, that ARR kinda drops that part of the story, maybe i miss read it but he said something to that effect. ill see if i cant find what i'm talking about to reference.

I need to do some digging but I actually remember him saying the opposite, that the echo would still play a part in the story.

My guess is the circle of knowing and various others (Raubahn, etc.) created a new group of individuals to look out for the return of the adventurers sent through time by Louisoix. The eye icon indicates that they are watching or searching for their return, and the devices are used to facilitate that task, either by letting them see aether fluctuations (time warps?) or to somehow recognize adventurers that have been sent through time.

So they have been given the devices to find people who have traveled through time or the void or whatever else... I have seen this before... We must all be covered in "void stuff" we do need a Doctor Who reference in FFXIV

Its because they, along with Lou were the heroes from the other dark umbral era who eventually went on to become known as the twelve and then even later on became deities in the minds of the ppl, who traveled thru time to be sure Bahamut doesnt destroy the world like in visions, probably Lou had. The eye, which is reminicent of an all seeing eye, is likely either the symbol of the person/god who charged them with the task or of a group who guards the new prison of bahamut. Kindda ala Harpers (from forgotten realms)

The goggle things are either to watch spikes in aether or see thru the disguises of the dragon beastmen that are roaming incognito thru the streets, masquerading as Eorzeans as they try to free their God.

At least thats my two cents. Its fun to speculate keeps me from pacing the floor eagerly awaiting arr lol
