SE's stance on PS2 limitations is about as big as a farce as you can get, most of the time a simple "we don't really feel like it would be in our best interest" would have done more than the PS2 limitation lie.I hope history doesn't repeat itself. There was so many things that they wouldn't do in FFXI because of PS2 limitations, they didn't want to be unfair to PS2 users.
Problem is when the PS4 comes out not many people will have them because of it being a new console and all. But PS3 has huge 70+ million userbase, even though it will probably be getting replaced by PS4 later in the year, still has a couple years left where devs will support it with new games. Moving from Cell (PS3) to AMD processor (PS4) won't make for a quick port or anything.
SE said they didn't want to make a FFXI port for PS3 because it would cost them around the same amount of money as a new game, they didn't stand to gain many customers it would be just PS2 users who upgraded to PS3 for the most part.
Not sure if anything at SE has changed to make them want to make a PS4 port of FFXIV when PS4 is out.
