On "Pets"

Sorry just came to me but everyone saw that the bomb is holding coffee and the babemoth is holding a bow and quiver, do you think that is a hint that the pets might do something? Like perhaps carry/support?

Or just for giggles (which is what I initially thought of lol). I know we were talking about bonuses and combat a little.

Yeah, that's another thing I noticed too! I think it can go either way? I thought it was just for laughs to be cute and silly alongside Yoshi P.? But hey! You never know? :P

Would be cool! I like the idea of chocobos acting as portable retainers with backpacks and satchels for extra space! Good observation though!

I doubt it's going to be anything more involved than like the vanity pets people have running around with them in WoW. Maybe they'll be obtained through Achievement rewards or something.

Well, I hate to bring in WoW on these forums, but both WoW and SWG had mounts/pets that you could use as personal: Repair NPC, Bazaar NPC (Retainer for XIV), provide small healing regen when out, a small amount of extra inventory.

It doesn't have to all be about combat buffs, these pets can provide other means non-combat oriented.

Personally I like the idea of a mobile retainer! It's a small amount of Inventory and allow you to make some money on the side! As a crafter you could make food, potions, and ammo. Or various consumable items and party members could buy the items from it in small amount of downtime between mobs!

My guess is that they'll be for housing only. They already cut our inventory space in half to save memory and we're getting chocos, I don't see them adding more to a player's group.

I hope they do something cool that can add to other aspects of the game.

An idea of this would be:

1. certain NMs can drop eggs
2. incubator can be crafted or bought for your home or free company hq
   -incubator is synthed from parts made by different crafts (i.e. blacksmith/goldsmith/weaver all make a single part and carpenter synths the actual item)
3. egg is incubated for a certain time until it hatches
   -can be a static time or vary depending on size of home
4. after hatching the pet itself can roam your home but is not usable outside of it
5. pets give unique boosts for members of that house/free company (example: behemoth gives all members of your free company crit rate +5 and 5% more gil from enemies)

Procuring an egg will involve you with a dungeon or NM, incubators will help make crafters money and add to the economy, etc.

And maybe one day you will happen across a golden chocobo egg...

Pets:

a) Let you score chicks "OMG DATSOCUTE!!! I LOVE YOU!"

b) Kill you in your sleep for playing vanity dress-up and putting a #$&%&#@#! pink bow on their head "You had a vivid dream last night. You feel somewhat dead."

c) Pretend they're Lalafell, while the Lalafell become the pets with a #$&%&#@#! pink bow on their head "Hey, I'm not a- " "SHUT IT! Pets don't speak!"

I'm out of ideas but clearly it's going to be one of those. . . .

Wonder if SE will go the same route as Blizzard in that you have hundreds of pets you can get in game however they save special ones for their online store so they can sell them to people for $10 a pop. Blizzard saves the best pets for their store usually have more and better animation/sound effects, often more visually pleasing.

UGH! Hope not! I'd hate to pay for a full game (+expansions eventually) + subscription then having to pay additional money if I want it to be "fuller", or have access to all of the content, no matter how trivial or vanity it is.
