If you want this kind of content where an area is only accessable by jumping it should be done with another mechanic like chocoboswin!!! people who do not want jump have no reason for it and can not see the future... what about a place where you can .... Idk jump over cliffs to the next area?
People have stupid reasons for not wanting jump it DOES NOT effect your game in the least... remember you all bitching about quest flags.. notice when it was added no one said anything? because IT DOES NOT EFFECT YOUR GAMEPLAY IN ANYWAY.
You people are bitching about JUMP? think about that for a second? JUMP!!!!! who the hell cares if they add it or not but if they do IT WILL NOT KILL YOU AT ALL!!! in fact it could be the start of something cool mab??......
FF11 players are the bitchest bunch of people ever seen i wish i hated ff games after reading stupid threads like this and the posts in them so we would not have anything in common..... You people all bitch for a change and when it comes you bitch even more.....
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

The point I would like to make is that CURRENT areas are not made for it and would require reworking. I'm not saying that future areas could not be designed with it in mind. I know WoW handles it just well but you need to realize that this game is nothing like WoW. Could it be changed? Yes it could. Is it worth it? I can't say for sure. I personally like not having that vertical element.jay you never played WoW... or don't know what your talking about..
they can make this world jump friendly and last summer x-play did cover a segment on hidden areas of WoW that jump and other tools allowed access to. This is also what Elder scrolls does all the time, and even in risen. SE can add hidden places jump allows access to and it can serve to hid NMs and such.
WoW none of you ever truely played WoW and explored.
How nice of you to add such a thoughtful and well-thought out post. I really am impressed by your sensible approach to this situation. >_>
And fyi, I played FFXI for a week if that. I joined too late in the life of the game and no one was on my server. Don't lob flames at me when all I'm trying to do is contribute to the conversation.

Could add a stamina bar as you said to prevent spaming, or just add a filter to block out the animation so if you don't want to see it you don't have to. It seems like people skim over the alternatives that compromise for both sides. Both sides can have their cake and eat it.The excuse of not wanting bunny hopping is seriously getting old. It is too easy to implement a system to not let jumping get abused like that for it to be a factor. It has been stated a million times a simple stamina tied to it won't let people abuse it. And even if it didn't have stamina tied to it, it wouldn't be nearly as big a deal as some exaggerate it to be.

The arguement that aesthetics are worthless holds no water. If that were the case why not remove all emotes all together? Why improve the effects of spells and battle effects? It's all aesthetics right? I mean spells and skills getting flashier does not improve their effect whatsoever so why is that still such a major issue that several people are complaining about?
The arguement that this will take time away from real issues also holds no validity. They said themselfs that the dev team is compromised of several smaller teams. I'm sure they mentioned that there was a team that did nothing but work on the player environment. I think this falls within that realm.
On a final note, all the people threatening to quit over every little thing. I'll quit if this is too easy. I'll quit if they add jumping. I'll quit if dungeons are anything like wow. I'll quit if NM timers aren't 1 hour + minimum. (you get the picture) Why don't you? I personally can't stand to play with players that get that annoyed over something that trivial. It's a game, it's not supposed to be serrious buisness 24/7.
Jump is not essential to a game. I find this whole topic irrelevant and the fact that Yoshi even mentioned this shows that he is just attempting to please the crowds. If they implement it cool, if they don't also cool.
People should be using their discussion skills on useful topics geared towards actual important content to the game. A simple poll off the community "to jump or not to jump" could have solved this whole stupid temper tantrum discussion thread. These threads are distracting the players from actual important issues.
If you are a person stating FFXIV NEEDS jump (as apposed to "i want jump")and finds that it is essential to game play, then you really need to reevaluate why you play these games.

There was a poll about features and jump was on it iirc, and was also very low in what players cared for compared to other things.
And i remember seeing people complain about this in Closed Beta (phase II) back when the main player bass was trying to give the game a chance; back then the topic was laughed right out of the beta forums.
Name ONE example just ONE anywhere in the game where this would be a problem? I haven't come across a situation like that anywhere in the game yet. It's not like all of the terrain would need to be redesigned. Collision walls for inaccessible areas in games are always stretched to infinity in the y-axis. There is no way you could accidentally jump anywhere where they don't want you to.

Any large cliff in Thanalan -- There's clearly defined invisible barriers preventing you from falling off of it, which means there's one there preventing you from jumping onto it.Name ONE example just ONE anywhere in the game where this would be a problem? Any "Game"? New Vegas.
You can not climb cliffs in or go around things the Devs didn't want you to by jumping or exploring. You hit invisible walls. Players had to release mods to allow it and they only work on PC.
Age of Conan has them. WoW used to have them.
