Agreed. Working with raws is always the best for just about anything. Since Fraps records uncompressed, you know you're getting exactly what you see on your screen. The only downside of course, is the humongous file sizes.

With recording directly to compressed formats, you don't know what you'll be getting, especially in footage where there's lots of movement (action scenes etc)
