    Gaming recording program

    Hello guys.
Do you guys know any other trustworthy game recording tool, other than Fraps? Because 1 minute of record FFXIV 1.X its a 2GB file...... which is kinda way big because id have to keep converting files every 10m or so.... I heard about Bandicam but.... not sure if its trustworthy.... I wanted to save a big video about the current version to keep so i'd always have a piece of my XIV 1.x account stored somewhere!

What you're looking for is something that can record directly to a compressed format. That might be pretty difficult to find. If you're concerned about file-size, try reducing the frame-rate and/or the resolution of your videos in Fraps' settings. I've been using Fraps for years in conjunction with Handbrake and can't really think of anything else doing what Fraps does but even better.

Also, if you're able to, I would recommend dedicating a hard drive entirely to recorded video. Large hard drives are really cheap nowadays and you get to record hours of uncompressed footage without even thinking about it.

I know you don't want Fraps since it gives you big files, but how long exactly are you looking to record, and how much space do you have dedicated to record?

Handbrake is fairly quick at converting/compressing Fraps files, depending what kind of quality you want. This is the route I went ( Fraps + Handbrake )

I bought a Fraps license years ago and I've never regretted it. I have 500gb drive dedicated to recording, it's very inexpensive and easy to add to your computer. I imagine even a USB hard drive would work in a pinch, although I think the SATA interface would be preferable for when you want to process your raw video.

Is that Handbrake program trustworthy? I wanna make somewhat a clip with most CS's of the current version + walking around some areas as they are now.

I got a 1.5tb External Hard Drive, but its kinda old (2 yrs) and the noise it makes while copying huge files to there is promising, i have a feeling the less i touch it the best right now lol. I'll try to get a new SATA HDD soon~ish. I ahve around 350GB left on my current Disk.

If you want to edit your footage, do it before converting so that you get the best quality possible. For that, use Virtual Dub, its free. If you have other editing programs like Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas, you can use those too.

Handbrake is for compressing/converting the files once you are done. It's also a free program and has not failed me.

So basically, your workflow would be:

    1. Fraps (record)
    2. Edit Footage (Premiere, VirtualDub, Sony Vegas etc)
    3. Compress source files (Handbrake)

Note: Depending on your preferences, you can also just decide to keep the edited video you made and not keep the source files around. Or if you want to keep your source files, use Handbrake
