We're the minority indeed, Levian, but I still don't think we should be ignored because of that.
I'm just replying to comment on your experience with XI, because I feel this is something SE should be paying more attention to than it is.
I'm sure we're very different people, you and I, and you and your friends in XI were probably very different too. But every time I see someone describe their experience with XI, I feel I'm in their shoes, it's almost precisely the exact same way I felt. There's something about XI that seems very unique. You can argue every game will have it's charm to their core players, but I'm willing to bet no MMORPG hooked players as deeply as XI did, nor for the same reasons. Your experience in Valkurm, how well you remember the first high lv player that helped you, the excitement of a deviant party makeup, that's all in my opinion very unique to XI. There were aspects of that game which could only be experienced in it. I played it in the early days and I realize how different it was for players joining up a few years after. Zakarn must not have been lucky to get there at that point, but even early players had deep issues with XI. The level of involvement was unique. I can imagine only another game with the same level of deep connection the players must have in it, and that is EVE. I haven't played it for years, and it's very different than XI in almost every way but it seems to give its community of players the same XI has given to its own.
I guess my point is XI did something no other game has ever done, no matter how many millions of players played it. I have never seen anyone talk about another MMORPG as Ive seen people talk about XI, and it's not a minority of XI players, but a grand portion of it. Most grand memories I have of it come from common places, low level parties, random adventures, and not from HNM battles or Dynamis. I don't see any other game do that. I don't see any other game have such deep content from start to finish. Every step of the way had the potential to be remarkable in XI, and that's what I miss in other games.
I have not the free time I did back then, but I would too still prefer a game with the pace of XI than any other game. I'd rather be truly involved in what I'm doing than just waste my time with it.![]()
