Because the way most games are designed, the animation coincides with the length of the GCD. So regardless of animation, not having a gcd would allow you to chain spells and abilities. XI was a good example of that too, because there were many abilities that you could use in succession without seeing the entire animation, they were usually self-target buffs though.

Global cooldown is there because there are invariably going to be skills that are instantly activated. It's to prevent exploitation via macros that can use up several skills all at once.

It's also used to pace the battle.

Yes but not talking about FFXI am i talking about 1.0 Version where you had to wait for the animation to be done before you could even use the next ws which sucked ass for ifrit fight. But i see GCD being lower down because people crying over it that just my point anything SE make people going to dislike and they may change it and make the game a spam fest.

I just mean who cares? I sorta hate those elitist people lol, I won't even join a guild/linkshell in a game that requires an application anymore, FFXI Endgame and then WoW Endgame turned me off from 1) The endgame elitist community in most games and 2) any group that's too bossy.

Seriously in FFXI and WoW if you didn't know me from my reputation for being a good player and that wasn't good enough I wasn't interested in joining, I've had linkshell leaders and guild masters hound me into trying to get me to post an application on their websites to which I always said "Nope, not gonna happen, you'd just say I was in a probation period until the end of time anyhow." I much prefer the small group of extremely skilled players who I get along with, who no one has some power trip thing going on, to the endgame groups that are extremely bureaucratic.

As for them not allowing someone in their guild for being a "clicker" that's silly.... Hell I was in a linkshell and our best Blackmage actually typed out all his spells, even his stuns. You could hear him on ventrillo typing away like the dickens. Course FFXI was slower paced than WoW but still. How would the guild even know if someone was clicking anyhow?

inb4 "but WE want to play FFXIV!" So do the rest of us, but we want a playable version.

EDIT: Also, the "no clicker" mentality does exist in competitive gaming. However, it's not common enough for anyone to really worry about it. Only the top of the top would downright refuse to accept anyone; most simply won't care as long as you accomplish your job.

Faster doesnt automatically imply enjoyable. I personally prefer a milder pace that will be assimilated more easily by the majority and focus more on coordination and team play than developing muscle memory to stack more or the same skills in a single minute.

Thats the kind of guild i'd run away from. New forms of discrimination every day

I had a buddy over who was a long time WoW player with me, he was amazed when I showed him the combat in FFXIV because you actually had to think and react to what the monsters were doing, and he said "Yeah that's totally different from WoW where you basically just hit any ability you have when it comes off of it's cooldown."

Yeah, I probably will be playing it. The question is, though: for how long? I've never managed to give other games that follow the formula they're trying to apply here more than a month before, so we'll see...

Anyone who does that in WoW probably does some terrible dps, because if your not following your classes optimal rotation or skill priority order, or waiting for certain abilities/trinkets to procs to use abilities you will do some really bad damage and people will be able to tell because everyone has recount.
