i actually liked how the world of 1.0 felt. it all seemed to work together and really gave the feel of a world [somewhat] under seige and using all of the materials around them. an example that was apparent to anyone were the materials used to craft items; you could SEE those items in the finished product and all of the armor in the game looked like it belonged to that time and world.

the introduction of the AF armor completely threw everything off. darklight, while a bit flashy, i think still goes with the theme i was just talking about but obviously it's a prestigious piece of armor and one to be visually different from the rest.

with all of that being said, 1.0 was pretty boring with it's browns, greens and blacks and although i loved the feeling the world gave me i would like for them to go into more detail and obviously have some awesome looking gear.

what i DO NOT want, although already happening and i'm sure will continue to happen, is girly, childish garbage that we see in the more recent FF titles, 10-2, 13, 13-2 - that crap isn't going to protect you from anything. it's a shame that this is the direction they're going ...

the whole vanity idea is for the birds...

The suspension of disbelieve is required here for things like "bikini protects you from teeth?" though since the thf and or ninja wearing little to nothing is normal in pop culture because of evasion and main character protection.

On the opposite end though with Lulu her design in actuality shows less skin then we see on the red carpet premieres but is designed for you eye to be drawn first to the cleavage then to the right leg.
I dont like the 'gotta show my thong' Rikku's costume but I could live with Paine's and Yuna's costumes if "everyone loved it" - though in particular with Yuna I didnt like it "on" Yuna, I always thought it was disappointing because I thought she looked Fan A Plus Tastic in X. My favorite of the X girls, yes over Lulu, and Rikku and then in FFX-2 its like "Hey, I'm the same but SE pimped me out and shredded my clothes".

Also I totally agree - the low cut outfits like Tifa's are totally well fit for the thiefy/monk light weight classes. Perhaps people will call me a prude but I think its unnecessary to do things like cut out the female torso plate armor just so we can see your belly button. Though Tifa shows less skin then the X-2 cast and what we already have in FFXIV and Tifa is often considered the "boom boom"ier girls of the SE bunch. So... wish they could release some 'sexy' classy and leave the coliseum gear to die. (Before people say nu uh, Tifa shows more - Tifa wears a shirt in FF7, and in advent children she is even more protected)

I don't mind skin but.. when 90% of your body is uncovered you should be one shot for thinking that is armor. Even thiefs don't do that..

I'd really like to see more gear that has that kind of "overglorified trenchcoat" look to it, robes with more bells and whistles. I just do not want it to get to the horrendous state WoW's gear design and many other MMO's with similar genres have decided to go in. I just don't want it to look like a suit around my character as opposed to something my character is wearing. When I look at other MMO's such as WoW or Rift where the gear is so gaudy and ridden with sparkle effects that you can't even see your character model in the slightest, nor differentiate it from others... please, SE, stick to the way FF gear should look; unique yet somewhat realistic, as in, someone would actually fathom wearing it.

That's the one thing I always enjoyed about XI and XIV; how our gear/clothing looks like ACTUAL gear/clothing that someone probably did craft or place into a dungeon's depths because it was just that awesome. Someone probably actually would want to wear said gear because it doesn't look like a costume made of cardboard glitterpixels. In other games, the realism of the gear's appearance has gone out the window, and the rule of thumb is usually "more glitterpixels means more item level", or in other words, if it's more gaudy and ridiculous looking, it has more stats. You don't often find a more powerful piece of gear in those games that doesn't look more sparkly than the piece you're replacing it with. SE could totally stand to get past the whole making some pieces of amazing gear look somewhat underwhelming thing.

I'm sure you've heard it before, but the coliseum gear, given its theme, is just fine. If not, it should be reduced to just a loincloth.
I doubt we'll see any similar designs in serious armors unless they are also related to the coliseum.

Related to the theme the gear is incorrect it either should be more naked or more armored.. >.> lol But we can just say they chose an average.

Related to the amount of armor it gives.. diee!!!!

They should make a function: (level) * (material type) * (1/(100*% of skin showing))

No matter the material (generally governed by class) or level of item if you are 90% naked you are 90% naked.

Well I never played tera or WOW but I understand the sentiment from my time in RO. But there are things that can be done in 14 that could still be done a be a bit over the top and you wouldn't mind. FFXIV compared to WOW seems very muted so things that are abnormal stick out much more. Case in point Ifrit weapons the effect is still theirs and theirs alone you can pick them out of the crowd super easy same with the relics. So I don't think there really is a need or even a place to have that over the top time warp auras of look at me.

But there are "auras" that would look organic in moderation such as Aethryte glow for an earring or something like warning lights (Hate to keep digging from the same source but its the most visual accommodating to the expression of my ideas since the warning lights in FF8 were to grand) like the gun mage weapon in X-2

Its very small details that draw our eyes because we look for them unconsciously because of the muted dynamic of our gear. Like noticing someone is wearing a white raven with out checking them. Almost like a self profiling prophecy.

    Evasive maneuvers != armor

    :P

IF you get hit, you should be hit like a white mage taru talking to an easy prey in early FFXI.

I would think it adequate to have less heavy / restricting armor to have higher evasive bonuses (or 'glancing').

All the stuff from FFX/X-2, FFVIII, and FFXIII comes from high-technology worlds. It just wouldn't fit well in this world IMHO.

It's better to look at FFI - FFVI, FFIX, FFT, FFXI, and FFXII for inspiration for this game.
