lol i was being facetious by making a point i wasnt playing alpha. but ya my firends gave up on xiv a long time ago and didnt bother to sign up for alpha. Thank god i guess.
If anyone is into JRPGs and looking to kill time, the demo for Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch came out on PSN yesterday. Looking forward to its release on January 22nd!
Well, I do understand SE in a way about inviting those inactive players... it's marketing really. "Here's how we changed it. Now, will you come to play again on our game?"... Don't forget that those inactive players have signed up for the Alpha so they should be considered as "highly-to-start-giving-us-money-again" players for Square Enix. The "very active" players will continue to play FFXIV even if they aren't invited in the Alpha.
It's no big deal really... unless you really want to get in the Alpha to test it and not just play it. I wanted to get in Alpha to test the engine, graphic and enviromental bugs and the new systems... playing it to say that all my 6 jobs were 20 and I completed the dungeon a dozern times wasn't on my list.... I'm not frustrated, I'm just sad that I can't help.

D: why did you have to introduce me to this...and why did I have to look it up? I love Studio Ghibli - and this game looks amazing amazing.
...
.....
....I don't own a PS3.
*sob sob sob*
one of my friends on xbox live havent played FFXIV since january. But he applied for Alpha when i told him about it. Guess what. He got invited to test Alpha when im not and im active players. I do agree with Iron Soup its have a marketing purpose. And worst scenario here is theres chances i dont get selected for either Alpha or Beta.............After that SE told us they will select Active players first........yeah right!
Don't get paranoid now.
Unfortunately it's very limited. Also, it's exactly the same demo they shown at several events over and over... so I played it like.. 15 times?
If it's a marketing move, it's not a very good one (which isn't surprising, Square Enix is the company that just had to withdraw a marketing stunt from facebook because they managed to get it associated to cyber bullying. I can't for the life of me fathom how the hell that has been greenlighted, I saw it coming from a mile away, and I wasn't the only one). Very limited alphas as this one aren't good marketing vehicles. Inviting that kind of players to a reasonably advanced beta that can really show the goods is much more effective.Well, I do understand SE in a way about inviting those inactive players... it's marketing really. This, of course, without mentioning the fact that making a rule and then not honoring it in the face of your paying customers is a *very* bad marketing move.
Not really. There's a large number of people that just signs for every alpha/beta they see (there even are sites that list them all for their convenience) in order to have something new to play for a couple hours.Don't forget that those inactive players have signed up for the Alpha so they should be considered as "highly-to-start-giving-us-money-again" players for Square Enix.
They log in, provide a warm body, log out, and never come back again, without providing any feedback at all.
By opening the alpha to everyone, SE opened the doors to a large number of those, excluding many that simply were much more deserving of the spot. Not a good idea.
