Warning of Square Enix Payment Options

Which part of the suggestion was incorrect? I don't have the option to make payment directly to SE using a credit card (I have a US based account) whereas my friend with a JP based account does in fact pay directly with her credit card.

In the months leading up to the end of FINAL FANTASY XIV's extended free trial period, we received copious amounts of feedback from customers regarding the billing system. We took that feedback to heart, and have worked to implement new payment options that better meet the needs of our players. As the first step towards our goal, we introduced the ability to utilize additional payment methods to purchase Crysta, and subsequently implemented a system that allowed for the purchase of user-specified amounts of Crysta.

As the next step towards a better customer experience, we are pleased to announce that it is now possible to enter credit/debit card information directly into the system to handle subscription payments. This feature has been by far the most popular request received from the community, and so we are very happy to make it available.

To utilize the new easier-to-use payment options, simply log into the Square Enix Account Management System and select the FINAL FANTASY XIV Service Account to get started.

Prior to Jan 2012 it was indeed only the Japanese that had a direct Credit Card billing method, but that changed about ten months ago.

I'm guessing you haven't logged into the Square Enix Account Management System to check out your payment methods since 2011. This new payment method went live a few weeks AFTER billing started, so if you are unaware of the change, it is because you had a working payment method at the time that allowed your attention to not be drawn to the change.

I've also noticed that it's exceedingly difficult to buy crysta for a family member or friend on a different account. Your Ultimate Pay accounts seems to be linked to the SE account permanently and can only pay for your own account if you prefer to use paypal. I believe setting up a CC with Square-Enix works but I haven't linked my credit card to my own account yet, so it remains to be seen if that was also permanently linked to my cousin's account when I bought some crysta for him. Anti-fraud is good, but there needs to be some balance with usability too.

Weird. I can pay with paypal since January 2012

Ah, so everyone is able to bypass Click&Buy and UltimatePay to directly send payment to SE using a credit card now? Great news if that's the case, can check-off the first suggestion

here take a look, Direct CC is here, now we need PAYPAL.. =.= so i can put in MY VISA DEBIT instead of freaking Credit Cards... .

While it's true some people do not have issues paying(lucky!) but it's almost a Russian roulette. This is exactly what I wanted SE to see. Though the system is on a good start there is obviously bugs that need to be fixed before ARR if possible. As to responses for those who are bringing up the more recent talk about paying directly from CC This is where the "Error" I spoke of comes in a error code 3303 or something like that. I was very excited about the change to SE taking in CC or debit card options but neither my CC, my gift CC nor my debit with work with this option. I know SE has numerous complaints of this but the people who assist on phone and web support(which may I add is almost impossible to find these days) I doubt are passing this information on. Everyone who I read with these same issues we all get talked to like its some one else's fault, never a solution, not even we have had word of this issue and are looking into it, just it must be your cc or your bank or your CC's bank, but not on our side. However the people with said issue like me do call and our banks our CC's have not been touched by SE trying to pull out a dollar to make legit so my thought is the error is somewhere between when SE should be charging you a dollar to activate your CC to the account.

For the record I am in Canada and have access to each payment option minus UP gift card payment option. I have also brought up multiple reasoning's to phone support about name/location/email and how it can effect this. Setting up a Canadian postal code was a bit tricky, I would add that to the possibility that the error comes from not reading postal codes correctly except the said problem seems to happen to places outside of Canada as well.
