Wow, never experienced behaviour like this when RPing in /say in Ul'dah. At worst, I was ignored. No, wait, I was always ignored. Anyway, past that, no-one on was ever rude to me.You should probably warn him about the dangers of RPing in public areas (mostly that if you are in a highly crowded area RPing in /S isn't particularly recommended.) It can lead to people immediately trolling you, or insulting you, and even asking you to leave.
If you are in a highly populated area I'd recommend doing /P as it will allow your group to speak more privately and you wont end up on quite as many block lists.

You... weren't on Balmung... I sometimes did my crafting in the quicksand and people would start RPing... this would promptly be followed by people chiming in with /em looks at (rpers) chest and smiles (Others would add slightly more vulgar statements like peeing in their tea and what not...
people yelling at them to quit spamming up chat
and often times I've seen people who won't party with people because they have an RP LS up specifically those known for RPing in /s because they apparently don't want to get spammed with RPing
I personally don't care... when the people doing it didn't suck it was quite interesting to watch.
