If you're serious about getting a Dev's attention, might wanna change the thread title to something like "Inactive players received emails!" instead of a title that suggests SE is incompetent >.>THIS IS WHY I HAVE OPENED THIS THREAD.
Ohh, so it seems that i'm not the only one in contact with ppl that got an invitation with inactive account.
We'll i suppose that they're all trolling us. :P
I just want clarification if this is a bug, working as intended, or anything else now.

Yes, they are a potential audience that SE wants to win back with the release of ARR.
Apart from that, it is a testing phase. They aren't looking for "who is worthy??" Type stuff because it is just to test out new features of the game and performance. It is not the full product.
Didn't get invite. I'm not surprised...
On the positive side, the Alpha will probably be pretty boring. The open beta will likely have more bugs fixed so it'll be more fun then the initial 'wow this is new' factor.
The thing is however that alpha isn't where you want to show off the game. The main point of alpha is to stress test the game and find and game breaking bugs/mechanics. Anyone who was or was not an active FFXIV player can help achieve this for them.Yes, they are a potential audience that SE wants to win back with the release of ARR.

I am just led to believe that people were picked entirely by random (active or not) and I don't believe a priority system exists for the Alpha.
IF...
1. You really wanted to be an alpha tester.
AND
2. You weren't chosen.
AND
3. You feel okay with this because "you know it will be bug-ridden", "testers are not there to enjoy the game".
You should know that complacency is typically an irrational response in these situations, because you're writhing in cognitive dissonance. It's just making excuses and rationalizing.
Because I'm aware of the psychology behind this typical behaviour, I know that it's okay to be upset.
[This has nothing to do with the fact that SE decides who gets in, according to whatever criteria (or lack therof) they determine, regardless of who we are or what we think. This is actually a valid argument]
Which is why they were also included. "Hey, remember that game you used to play? Were improving the game now and want your feedback so that you can enjoy it."The thing is however that alpha isn't where you want to show off the game. They aren't the whole group of testers.
Picking those that quit a long time ago might not be the absolute best option. They are highly likely to be the ones that believe FFXIV will fail no matter what they do, and wont offer any real feedback and pretty much just waste the slot.... They probably wont even accept the invite.
Maybe the questions that needed to fill in the applications were all trap questions XDYes, they are a potential audience that SE wants to win back with the release of ARR.
