It could be literally anyone. For instance, we know that Titan and Leviathan were summoned long ago (and they will be again), but we saw Titan at the Midgardsormr incident. Literally any primordial entity that had built up enough influence in our world, at any point in time ever, to be considered a worshiped deity is up for grabs.

Back when they said it was "a primal" that stopped their advance, the information was so succinct and matter-of-fact that I had assumed we were meant to have the answer. It wasn't teasing us with anything, so I figured, "Hey, Midgardsormr." But now we know that this isn't true--and yet there is no limit to the alternatives.

Unless it's something integral to an ARR storyline (in which case it should be kept secret), I feel like some kind of articulation would help their origin stories. A lot of us are going to remember 1.X and use it when trying to fill in in ARR's open ends. Unless the holes still left in 1.X are meant to be closed later, it's probably better not to leave us to our own devices to do it...

This thread is proof enough of that. Thal's balls, lads, I'M proof of that.

Ok so lets say it could be any of all the Primals we know about and maybe some that we don''t know about that participated in all these attacks to the Empire.

Why did they stop attacking? And what made them attack the Empire in the first place? I guess Primals do w/e they want if they all are as maniac as Garuda , but Primals sure liked to hang out at the norther part of Hydaelyn. Do you think the Paragons had to do with it?

Oh, I have no doubt about that. I think the primals are going to be like pokemon - we start on this island and we know about these ones... and then we go to another island and the PrimalDex goes apes#!t with things Professor Cid forgot to tell us.

Based on what we know of primals so far, I figure it was self-defense. Primals live in their own isolated spheres of influence and, to them, that is all that there is. They might have ambitions of taking it all, they might dream of being the One True God, but let's face it, Ifrit gives a grand total of 0 Damns what's going on in Limsa Lominsa right now. You have to wander into Amalj'aa territory before he starts blowing blue flames at you. If the Amal aggressively expand later, I'm sure he'll burn that bridge when he gets to it.

The Empire, by taking all territories of those lands, inevitably would wander into foreign primal territory (inevitable now that we know there are foreign primals, anyway). I'm sure they just didn't take too kindly to that, and the damage they dealt to the occupation made the Emperor realize that as long as they're around, they're going to be a pain in his throne.

What is clear tho is that none controls the Primals none tells them what to do....i assume if you summon one with the purpose of them crushing an enemy (to use them as a weapon) you have to go hide under a rock and let it go "wtf? RAWR!" on everything that moves.

Yeah, pretty much. It gives you gifts and you worship it and give it aether and you hope your interests align. Unless, of course, you can infuse the progenitor essence of a primal into something more malleable... such as a machine... In that case you might be able to get a pet primal of your very own to name Alexander and dominate the world with.

Would be interesting if that's what Garlemald was up to.

However, I'm more interested in the past until ARR arrives.
