This actually works against those who "are still having fun in 1.0"..less of us play..servers goes right back offline lol. I guess if you can still have fun by making no progress at all with your character, more power to you.

Terrible decision to bring the game back up. Focus every single resource they have on 2.0 until release.

My recommendation? Get 2.0 out sooner than April 2013 and let go of 1.0.

Please explain how turning on the servers of a game that's already made and won't be improved on would possibly interfere with the ongoing creation of 2.0.

Keeping the server up doesn't hinder 2.0 ARR progress much at all. So don't sweat it.

Short answer it wont...

The administration team for the XIV 1.0 most likely are on back burner while they wait for documentation to train on the new 2.0 server architecture and admin tools coming from the testing and issues discovered by the development team that is responsible for monitoring the server now. So they have extra man power right now that could be re-purposed then brought back, but at the same time they could just keep doing what they were doing plus what other minuscule to major tasks their work load allows so they can appease a section of the community with little no loss in resources for ARR. So there is no loss here with subject at hand maybe some as a company but I assumed they planned for that as well.
