Well how about this then? Can you name a country which this game is localized for that would ban this game solely on the notion of same-sex marriage in a game. Let's narrow it down to countries that are actively supported by the developers.

The regions supported (going off the main website purely) are Japan, North America, the UK, Germany and France. Now also note that there are a good deal of Spanish-speaking players, some of which have moved to ask the devs to create a Spanish forum. So thus you could include Spain and Mexico, seeing as NA is already supported.

Out of those regions, those that concern the game specifically, which would create some huge outcry over the removal of the restriction?

As I've stated It not a matter of negative consequences maybe to them and I say maybe it a matter of there principle's something they hold dear to and if another company hold to your value same applies to you. Its about respecting both views something that human's have very hard time doing in this day and age. Do I believe it will ban it because of ssm no do I believe in the rights of company's to chose how they want to represent there product no matter the views they might hold yes even ssm.

This is a discussion, not Jeopardy. Anyone could've used a theocratic country in the middle east or central africa, but is there a sizable grouo of mmo players or ff fans there? Why would the country's sensibilities have to be courted over the opinions of the players in this thread?

Iran is an extreme example, its also a poor example because there are other things in prior versions of the game that do not square with muslim mythology, but there is no proof of any issue between Iran and Square Enix. Either it has been living under a rock for many years and has only now found final fantasy series with xiv, or it hasn't and the theocrats saw the summons such as Ifrit , Bahamut, Diabolos and Leviathan as "meh".

This is why most people have moved onto wanting to call it something else but most of those who don't want SSM are still on their side of the fence saying "nope".

To be fair though, this view could be applied to almost anything they implement. MMO players especially are rarely happy with anything they're given. So if it doesn't make 100% of the playerbase happy, they shouldn't do it.

I don't see the use of this thread other than time killing reading the arguments and getting amused by some.
I'm glad they won't implement SSM, and hope they never do. I understand that maybe a guy makes a female character and say his "wife" created a female character and they wanna get married in game. Well, then just create a male character such as yourself, they made male Mithras and Female Galkas in ARR (or maqutos and whatever their name is) so now you don't have an excuse.
To me as a guy it feels wrong to choose a female character as a main character (wouldn't mind picking a female character as a mule for storing items but then again in FFXI I had 3 characters, 2 mules and none of them was a female) but this is my own opinion.

I saw over 500 votes to SSM and i'm sure most of them want it just for the "lol"s of it and probably don't care but just to oppose those who don't want it (this is a common trait of typical american gamers from what I've seen over the years of online gaming)
