What seems "retarded" to you is fun to others. And do you not get that's what it's for? Fun, not actual formation of relationships. How many times do people have to repeat this?lol Marriage through a game is retarded if you are forever alone go out and date someone doesn't matter your preference, but to get so defensive and hissy fit at the slightest opposition of something so banal added to a game as weddings is ridiculous. If SE feels generous enough to add this i hope they do it at least 5 years from now after they have implemented REAL FUN stuff to do in the game
P.S. This is going to be available at launch.
Did they say it was a launch feature? I forget.
But yes, it's definitely confirmed as a forerunner feature along with Housing and Frontlines and stuff, anyway, so either way the nit you quoted looks all the more the fool.
.. Oh hey I didn't post on the actual thread subject o.o
For!
Although I do think the rename it/come up with different theme around it option's a good idea for dodging the controversy and making everyone more comfortable.

The marriage system and other content aren't mutually exclusive. They can add this and other things all at the same time. It's not like they have one single team that works on one thing until it's finished before moving on to the next. They have a large number of teams all working on different aspects of the game. They made the decision to add this and dedicate resources to it. All we're asking is that they don't restrict it to heterosexual couples.lol Marriage through a game is retarded if you are forever alone go out and date someone doesn't matter your preference, but to get so defensive and hissy fit at the slightest opposition of something so banal added to a game as weddings is ridiculous. Marriage in-game has nothing to do with being "forever alone". In fact it seems quite the opposite. Most who are expressing excitement over the feature already have someone to be with in real life who also plays this game. Quite a few who have responded to this thread already have someone in mind to marry, however a number of them can't because of this restriction.
I talked about this halfway through the thead. I think this is a great way to handle it. You make all the items you would need for a wedding available, the areas used for them instanced so you can take in specifically who you want and do whatever you want with the space. This way it is also more agile in purpose. You could have a feast, a birthday party, a wedding, whatever you want and the company doesnt have to make it their issue.
So what if they "confirmed" it? they confirmed and affirmed SMN was not going to touch the primals and now they will get to play with their essence ...everything can changeDid they say it was a launch feature? I forget.

I have a hard time with the idea that people want to get married for "fun". Honestly, that is the kind of stuff you see people doing when they are 10 like playing kitchen. I don't exactly see people 12-22 getting together to pretend to get married outside a game, so I don't know that there is a large population of people who want to do it for that reason. Certainly, the people who are empassioned about the same-sex subject are not in here showing their support for "fun".
Additionally, I don't think you can really call it a "social feature". This makes it seem like there is going to be this regular event where people get married over and over again for fun. It is definately a feature which paints a picture of eorzean society (which is where some of the same-sex arguments come from). But given that they don't have plans to implement devorce (not yet anyways), It definatly speaks to the perminance and importance of marriage as an institute even in a game.
I would also like to state that, on a personal note, such a laissez faire approach to something that I find important conceptually, regardless of the medium, is not only sad but kind of a representation as to why many right-wing individuals view subjects like this as the deterioration of marriage.
it wasn't such a controversial topic for bioware when making mass effect titles. I don't see why it should be controversial for se.
Actually I don't believe they ever said that Summoner had absolutely nothing to do with the Primals. They just said that Summoner wouldn't summon the Primals themselves, which is still true.
At any rate, while we're trying to get something changed it is only a removal of a restriction. We're not asking them to completely change every last feature of the system that is still in development. We've given them suggestions on how they could implement the system and avoid nasty PR issues but that's about it.
Not everything has to shed gil and xp.lol Marriage through a game is retarded if you are forever alone go out and date someone doesn't matter your preference, but to get so defensive and hissy fit at the slightest opposition of something so banal added to a game as weddings is ridiculous. I take it you never attended one of these ceremonies in xi, they are wonderful and help provide community among its members. Especially reception events after. You can tell that the gm presiding(and the lore writers) make certain that the experience is a ceremony in
character and grace for all invitees.
And besides, 5 years would change what, exactly?
I'll bet 10 gil that marriage won't even affect housing rates...
