Here is more proof of old model Leviathan: 7:43 in case video doesn't load at that time. That's what it seems like, anyway. The "Old" serpent seen in the LL storyline and the "New" serpent share a ridiculous amount of features; the six things coming out of its head, two being much thicker than the others, long serpent shape with two wings, even the red trim on the end of the fins is the same. It's just that the newer one looks more... leviathan-ey.
The biggest clue for me is the Blacksmith quest that, in the English client, refers to seeing "the sea serpent," the German client clearly refers to him by name.
Blacksmith 30 Quest
English: I'm as frightened o' sirens an' fishbacks as the next bloke...but I'd take me chances with a whole horde o' the buggers if it meant never seein' a sea serpent again.
German: Sirenen oder Sahagin ... wenn du mich fragst, ich würde keinem der beiden gerne auf See begegnen ... obwohl das immer noch tausendmal besser wäre, als der Seeschlange oder Leviathan als Häppchen zu dienen.
(Sirens or Sahagin ... if you ask me, wouldn't like to meet either of them at sea ... but that would still be a thousand times better than being appetizers for the sea serpent Leviathan.)
We also know that the sea serpent appeared some time ago - appearing in our echoes, not our realities. The story goes that the ships of Limsa drive it back to the depths, which fits with this line which mentions him by name in
It Kills With Fire:
"Hah! Those wooden-headed tree fondlers will have to do better than that if they hope to play the thalassocracy! All know it was our own Company of Heroes that slew Leviathan, and it's plain the Gridanians seek to supplement their feeble ranks with allies who might feasibly contend with a primal."

Yeah, I think the red trim is one of the biggest giveaways.

The bones pretty much show you that it's just other entity the story could be something else. Remember what npc tell us could be lies also it could not be the 100% true because it a story told and told again over and over and things change in the story just like how many history stuff we learn we not 100% sure. It's possible that it was another entity, but everything says Leviathan to me... it's in LL, its presence correlates with treasure taken from an island said to be the mythological place Leviathan is bound to, it's heavily ingrained in Limsa's lore, and so far the only sea beast we know for sure is is Leviathan, and we see it destroy several boats with what I must assume was Tidal Wave.
Much like my standards for discounting an assumption until shown otherwise, that's just too much for me to not make the assumption until shown otherwise.
So i say that it's not leviathan it just a random big fish in the sea lol maybe a power beast but just not a primal. hoping the dev would tell us something about it so we really know

I feel a need to correct the translation.Blacksmith 30 Quest

Sirens or Sahagin... If you ask me, I wouldn't want to meet either of them at sea... although that would still be a thousand timest better than serving as an appetiser for the sea serpent or Leviathan.
Of course, that could also be a German Loc error. So, I'll leave that to Ferne or Eemeefu to chat to the German localization reps (Lokalocuta or Tertiyumdatur) about.

Very interesting thread. I never noticed the sword and quiver swap until now. I would love a condensed version of the lore explained in a reasonably easy to understand fashion. I think that story and lore consistency are a deeply lacking part of games these days. I hope we get some answers tomorrow as well.
Hmmm... Well, maybe that giant Serpent wasn't actually Leviathan? That would possibly explain why Leviathan looks different in 2.0...
When I watched the trailer I thought the archer was the cat lady from the intro trailer and that the only one missing was the elvaan.. but theres a blm in their group that I couldn't tell what race it was so I like to think that's him. In my version they all stayed together yay!
Is it just me or do others see the topic name and think "congrats, midlander"!
