Don't allow weddings at all in game. A very simple solutionthis MMO will be made for adventure and ass kicking, you are on the wrong category
I definitely agree with this. At least regarding of the Western player base I think many would not feel too delighted if inequality was implemented. After all quite a few were for SSM.
In general, when it comes to sensitive questions, and not directly regarded to this issue:
I think it is sad that one often thinks about offending those that are against something but rarely about offending those that support something (specially if it is human rights).
Applied to this game: I think it is possible to offend people either way by forbidding or allowing SSM.
Sure, SE can (and will) offend people by allowing SSM.
But it is not like no one will care if SSM is forbidden. I think there will be a few that are gonna be offended this way, as well.
I DO know that the Japanese culture is quite different but well, at least SE asked for it. So it is not entirely off the table.
About names I prefer handfasting as it is some kind of "marriage" too but it seems less "heavily connotated" than marriage (as in our culture we generally don't have handfasting - so it appears more like a distanced fantasy tradition even though it is not) and it has a more nature-spiritual way (comes from northern and middle European witch/shaman/religion cults). I think this is much more distanced from what we call marriage, still it is a union of very strong affection and it has a magical touch/feeling about it which suits into FFXIV I think.

How about we just call it marriage and leave it as is, don't you think if SE was really going to do something that controversial that they would have confirmed it by now? This extremely small, non-game play related thread has gone above and beyond any game related thread, it's a little bit ridiculous.

Yoshida asked for feedback on this. I didn't start this thread out of the blue.
And the size of this thread maybe just shows how important this is to a notable amount of NA/EU players.
Good thing westerns =/= the entire world.I definitely agree with this. At least regarding of the Western player base I think many would not feel too delighted if inequality was implemented. After all quite a few were for SSM.

Are you seriously gonna talk about human rights in a MMO?
To hook up with someone has never been a reason to play this kind of game.

It's not a notable amount of western players, it's a vocal minority. It won't bother me if it's in either way, I just find it disgusting that people find this to be more of an issue than anything game play related, more important than the EoaE trailer itself.
@ Warlock
Sorry, I guess I was not clear enough about this part (fixed it by now):
>>I think it is sad that one often thinks about offending those that are against something but rarely about offending those that support something (specially if it is human rights).<<
May bad, sorry! I mean this in a general context, not in specially this case.
I think it is in general a bit sad that - no matter what question is related (and no matter on what level, may it be communal, city related, national wide etc.) that there is a tendency about fearing offending those that are against something and not so much those that support something. At least this is how I have perceived the handling of sensitive questions personally.
I think I have already written this some times but I guess I have to do it again. I do not decline or ignore the cultural differences and I am AWARE of the different cultural view on this issue.
I considered this thread however as a place to voice opinions so despite the difficult issue it's not wrong to voice an opinion on this topic, even if it is not congruent with SE's home country.
@ Teuciont
It's not only about those who are LGBT themselves. It's about all those that support SSM in a game for whatever reason and as we have seen those reasons vary quite a bit.
Just thinking about the probably not so small amount of males playing females and that couldn't "marry" rl female friends/girlfriends/wives etc.
