While I agree this is a cultural issue, I am not sure that the government would step in and stop gay marriage in one of SE's games...
LOL - that would be some epic news.
@ Valk reason why the government is against homosexual union is because it is similar to marriage and most of the government has an affiliations to an anti-homosexual religion (i.e. "god doesn't like it when you waste your man babies on things that don't make babies" Not that many care about it when they touch themselves of course..)
Edit: When I read Colvins response I totally thought you where talking about the US Gov. Valk lol My bad ^_^ (Japanese may have similar reasons but I dont have enough experience to say..)
I like Colvin's stance - specially for one in this talk I would consider "across the table from me" in this particular opinions vs opinions lol (in a friendly way Colvin :P). While marriage itself in idea form existed before the main religions, I can understand the desire to change the name out of respect to what they have adopted (what most people think they invented). In a real world argument I may say leave the name alone since it didn't originate with a particular religion people affiliate with but in a video game its entirely different. Video games are meant to be other worlds, changing the name is just like tipping the hat to the lore buffs - more lore more fun less hurt feelings.
I like the reoccurring idea put up here to allow marriages for everyone but don't really write in particular lines that make it appear like SE noticed it would happen. Like "oops..." lol.

I've never read it or watched the anime. It's not really my cup of tea but I saw what is currently my sig and had to have it.
>< Don't like being off topic but I felt compelled to answer.

In fact bringing that kind of outside attention to the game is what SE's trying to avoid lol. As it concerns FFXIV, the only opinions that should matter are those of the players and prospective players. As we've seen here the current player opinions tend to be mostly for or at least not against removal of the restriction.
:snicker:
"Sir, online piracy is down."
"Meh"
"Doujinshi sales are up!"
"Ho hum"
The Yakuza are QTE-ing people in the streets!"
"SE is not limiting avatar gender in their wedding ceremony content In their online game!"
"RAUNCH EVERY ZIG!!" :in the worst engrish imaginable:
They may not be able to stop "in game" actions, but they can cause problems delaying a game indefinitely. In general any place out of Canada and the US this is not a hot topic. As in most place's it's "no" end of argument, story, discussion. Something i have noted, most here don't realize, that this game is "international" so decisions taken need to be based on how the world looks at issues, not how Americans look at an issue.
If in the majority of countries give a similar reply, and 2 gives something different... take a wild guess what the outcome will be..
This is an the stupidest statement in this topic. It has to be joke?! This game is not about getting married. This is a PvE game currently adding new jobs is content. Marriage is "timefillertoapeasetherpger". You don't play this game to get married, you play this game to level, get gear, fight bosses. If you want to play a game to get married I'd recommend Sims. Or if you want to use this game as an expensive chat room thats your choice. Not you in particular. I've been skimming past this thread since I left it quite a few pages back and I am referencing those stating: "We shouldn't have marriages at all because I personally don't like the idea." or something along the lines of that.
It's like if I said we shouldn't have new jobs because I don't like them.
But content is something that betters the game and brings variety. Marriage is fluff content, it does nothing the actually game play. You never hear top game reviewers talking about, "OMG MARRIED IN THIS GAME IS DA BEST, oh ya there is some classes but THE MARRIAGE is where its at."
And the "MEFIRST" and "selfish" people are the people wanting fluff content over actually content. Even those yes this game is diverse this content is a be all end.
I'm for having the content, I don't think something so simple and most likely meaningless in the game will really take much away from dev time. I mean the content won't have any benefit to being married vs not. The main reason the option for not having it was stated was because of the conflict it caused.
If people are so opposed to the idea of same sex marriage and can't compromise by just calling it a different name or some other good solution. Then the best option would be not to have it. Instead of pissing off a whole side by having it and keeping opposite sex or having it and doing same sex. If people can come to agreement then thats the best option if they can't then not having it is the second best option. That is the thinking of that option.
But please don't statements like this ridiculous "don't add new classes because I don't like them" to this argument because it is far from the same thing. For the record saying "don't add new holiday events because I don't like them" is in the same orbit of a marriage event. About that level of unimportant.
Hello,
As some of you know, we recently locked another thread dealing with issues very similar to this one due to the fact that it degenerated into non-constructive arguments and personal attacks. I, along with other moderators, have been looking at this thread and understand what a very sensitive topic this is. Given that fact, it is only natural for people's opinions and feelings to be very intense. Unfortunately when this causes the discussion to degenerate into personal attacks, condemnations of others, and insults, we have no choice but to lock the thread.
I know what a very important topic this is for many of you and would like to keep this thread open for as long as people feel the need to discuss this topic. I must ask though, that you refrain from descending into personal attacks and insults on one another and keep the discussion on-topic while respecting other users' feelings, experiences, beliefs, and opinions.
I appreciate your cooperation and understanding,
-Verytus

Isnt this an MMO rpg?
I totally agree that this content isnt high priority but in an rpg, where you are pretty much living a second life - and specially a SE rpg (which have some huge romance characters), it really isn't foreign or unreasonable for SE to add this kind of content.
And this is where I stopped reading.
Go back, read my posts, come back, give me a real response that doesn't twist my words.
You CAN NOT honestly think that I want to play this game for online fake marriage.
