Where is FFXIV headed in terms of sexism?

Interesting read and I can see a number of your points, but I worry if this may be taken too far in the discussion. Granted I only went to Pg.3 before I chose to respond this whole discussion can go bad, very fast if it hasn't already. Anyway what I really wanted to say is I actually agree on the strangeness of their choice in questions to answer. Breast physics is (And I am a guy mind you.) really the last thing I thought they'd bother about adding to a game. I guess it adds to the realism a little depending on how they implement it (Please no "Baywatch" moments?) but not something I'd have expected, or thought they'd really bother on commenting on.

Breast physics? Hmm, yeah, okay, sounds cool... But I'd rather have more important information that confirmation we can shake those tops like a bowl of jello.

or maybe we can put that development power, towards you know character animations like running, turning, strafing & dodging...its a sad day when boob physics take precedence over global animations.

although i can't get this image of the development team rounding up the ladies and asking them to jump up and down for awhile out of my head.

This is simple.

You want to play a game that is based upon fantasy and thus willing to bend the rules of what constitues as 'sexist' or some other such thing, you play WoW, GW, FF, etc

You want to play a game that resembles something closer to the real world and doesnt allow such things, go play second life.

Or, better yet, stop being nerds and arguing about stupid topics and go live your REAL life offline, where it belongs.

There is also one more thought to this - the FF brand is based out of Japan where the Japanese culture is the main influence on what is going to be seen in the game. While the player base stretches across numerous other countries and types of people, ultimately, its the japanese culture that's driving the game.

This sort of thing is what japanese people want, thus, this is what they're going to receive. If you're truly bent out of shape about it, then go find a NA based game with stricter designs.

Difference for me is that these topics are silly and meaningless. You really think or rather feel like a game is too sexist for you? I feel sorry for you. You're really worried about same sex marriage in a game, really? Would the idea that you couldnt have a guy on guy or girl on girl marriage really dictate whether or not you would play a video game? Does the flat tummies and fit bodies of the avatars make you feel somehow inadaquet as a person and insecure? Then your problems lay much deeper than within a video game.

In no way, shape or form, is the game discriminating against female players or the avatars that they represent by limiting them in what they are capable of accomplishing. What they choose to wear is entirely up to the player themselves, though the designs themselves may be more revealing on a female than a male, ultimately the player chooses what he or she wants to adorn themselves in. Not the dev team, not Yoshi himself. The original poster has mentioned that they didnt have issues with the swimsuits or the more open clad style clothing, so its not a clothing issue really, so what instead is the sexism focus coming on? The breast size/physic question that came into the Q&A, that's called making a mountian out of a molehill. So what, a couple of nerdy foreveralone guys decided it'd be funny to see the live letter address a silly topic and they won, good for them. Anyone who is offended and thinks that it has a deeper, darker, more sinister play on discrimination have their own personal issues to deal with. It has nothing to do with how the game is going to function.
