I personally (and it may be just me) would want to level up a new job if it got added to the game.

I wouldn't want to think "Oh look, here's 6 quests to unlock the job, some abilities and AF".

Part of the fun for me is thinking "Ooh I'm gonna level up soon, I wonder what my new ability will be like!" I remember feeling that way with MNK in XI for things like footwork (then I was horribly disappointed obv).

For me, I didn't level up a class on this character until jobs were around and it was really fun unlocking the job at 30 and once I hit the level to unlock a new ability, doing a quest for it. I guess some people didn't experience that because they already had a bunch of 50 classes, but that to me was really fun.

Sorry I can't explain what I mean very well today.

I wouldn't mind having a separate experience system for abilities. This way you can still apply experience to abilities but you aren't forced to level away from your peers. That was the main downside to XI and why they implemented the system they way they did in XIV. They got a lot of complaints about people basically not having access to the job they wanted from the beginning and potentially negating all progress because they had to start over back from level 1.

I would feel more empowered if I had experience go towards abilities rather than a blanket leveling system personally.

I actually thought more of FFX-2 and the ability-learning system for the dresspheres.

You know, on that note... I had hoped they would make an MMO using the sphere grid as a basis. I would really enjoy that. Actually, I would play an MMO that takes in Spira, in general.

Hell ya I mean like the ability system from FF9. $h!7 was money.

When they first announced that there was no leveling system and you would learn new abilities as your gained skill in your weapons I thought that was what they were going to do.

Sadly, instead of no leveling system we got two, and one of them was completely useless.

I'm confused with how much I've been agreeing with you.

That wouldn't be too bad. I just don't like the fact that you can go do a bunch of quests and have all the abilities so fast. I think granting abilities should be a gradual thing.

I enjoy trying out my new tools, and getting to grips with them before I get a new one. It's the reason I didn't like getting PL'd in most games. I didn't have any moral qualms with it, I just disliked rushing through your classes development.

I'm a proponent to content making you feel like you wish you had a certain tool, and then by levelling up you end up getting it. Like in XI (again, sorry I'm making so many comparisons) as a BRD you started to wish you could single target your songs because you were getting more and more, so you were using more situational songs.

    BAM Pianissimo was obtained.

I'd agree if you always got an ability per level-ish.. but as it stands you go through 4 or so levels before you get anything. Makes the levels inbetween seem boring. I read an article that stated 53% of the people who say they left FFXI in the early stages was because you had to get to level 20 before you could really even use your class to play in a way that felt like the class... that is WAY too long.

It is just as bad in this... the first 10 levels of GLD you just auto attack with random bits of fastblade. I think you should have your first combo by 5 to really rev up the action base. My enjoyment of combat increased heavily after getting lots of combos so I constantly had stuff to do.

Well I'm not implying that XI or XIV's pacing was perfect. But that mindset would be ideal, imo.
