I thought at the end of the trailer he was teleporting everybody to another realm along with himself....which is why the trailer fades to white instead of black.

When I die, I hope to go toward the white light... not the darkness. O_O

The fade to white as opposed to black was to indicate he was second away from being hit with Giga/Megaflare in the face. I don't think he survived...but I do think the Primals ended up doing something about Bahamut.

Louix has that calm before death look..there's no mistake about it. He just accepted his fate, knowing he did what he could to preserve mankind and our future.

He should be honoured in ARR, so that all players know the sacrifice he made to save what he could of Eorzea, us.

I for one can't wait to use his gift to us.

Him and Bahamut probably ended up locked in some kind of binding, hence why the world is still standing. They might even be combined now, and it won't be revealed proper until we reach him in whatever story Bahamut's raid dungeon has.

As amazingly awesome and compelling it would've been for Louisiox (and the Grand Company leaders) to die in that situation, especially for the integrity of the story, people don't stay dead in Final Fantasy games.

Actually it would be very typical for a Final Fantasy game.
Remember FFIV? A load of people died sacrificing themselves for your main group. I was sad every time but never as much as when Palim and Palom sacrificed themselves.
Until EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. of them came back to life xD

That being said; I'd prefer it if he stayed dead. Gandalf never had the "I accept my fate" expression, he fell while still fighting, his throughts were described as "I think they won't be able to go on without me". The reader didn't know about it for a while, sure, but for Gandalf it was always obvious that he was still needed.
Louisoix..not so much. His facial expression said "It's fine. I got them to safety..hm..seems like I'm out of mana..I guess that's it. But it's alright. They are safe."

I don't view that as less worthy than any other sacrifice but I think it would not be as great and meaningful if he survived.
