...Welcome to JRPGs. Killing gods and god-killing demons is pretty much standard practice for a 16-year-old boy from a small town with a single parent and opposite-sex childhood friend that has a crush on him but never tells him until right before they go and kill this god/god-killer while wielding some Deus Ex Machina Sword crafted by some ancient civilization that somehow had more futuristic technology despite being thousands of years old.

Bonus points if the god in question is actually just a surviving being from this ancient civilization who just got powerful because of SCIENCE.

(honestly this was probably Giga flare or Tera Flare)
The way that the missiles travel looks like a flame version of Ultima from FF9.
Then again, you look and his mega flare even looks like fire, so maybe all things non-elemental are being shifted to fire?
Or thats just the way they look surrounded by the flames of a burning continent *shrug*

Also, it didn't use any sort of megaflare.

Also: yay at full CGI Thancred.
bawww at full CGI Thancred getting blown up alongside everyone else, sob.

Didn't he use Megaflare after he broke the new seal? Right before Megaflare went off we were teleported.

    OK

Ok. He disconnected all the Heros from the matrix or in that case that is what has been going on. Probably since the start of this world there have been dragons/primals mixed in in the same world as the other gods the twelve. The twelve created most of the races on the planet which either angered or infringed upon the primals/dragons. In a never ending battle, each umbral era ending with the Dragons winning but the twelve managing to recreate/save the people of that world. Possible we could consider the people of eorza (/that world) as a manifestation of the sleeping twelve. Which is why they act through a person and don't do so personally. We can maybe say that all tho the dragons have constantly won, each time the twelves side manages to hurt them more. With eventually being able to seal Bahamut before losing again.

So like I said kinda like the matrix. Where the world you are in is not what you think it really is and that everything truly has happened again and again but with variations each time because of outside influence and new Heros to take on the cause. For that matter the dragons and primals could be part of the same dream. Being created by some of the members of twelve. So we now have a potential division among the twelve where some favor prosperity and the other having their own agenda.

If we assume that existence in this world is withing a creation of the twelves dream and that their now might be a possible conflict within the group. We now can explain the powers our characters have, the existence of the dragons and primals, a connection of the (death) looking wraith things to one of the twelve, how and why each Umbral era starts and ends the way they do and why the twelve themselves can't or won't physically manifest themselves. We can then say that each hero (our toons) are in a sense a reincarnation from a previous umbral dating back to before the first.

We now end up having survivors who continue to live on, repopulating the world and special individuals strong enough to be of use in the next era. It now becomes the Secret Wars of the FF14 universe >.>.

I will call it now! We get to the end of FF14 main story. Then bam the twelve wake up in FF21: Shattered Dreams. Then it gets revealed that everything in ff14 happened withing the 5secs of a spell used on that twelve by the main villain in FF21 which is a prequel and the opening CS. >.>

The last time that Bahamut was sealed away, Eorzea had the help of Midgarsormr. If you'll notice, the sealing ALMOST worked. No doubt when the sigils of the Twelve fully raised the sealing would have been complete, but Midgarsormr sacrificed itself to fend of the initial Garlean invasion. Midgarsormr would likely have tipped the scales this time as well.

That's some prime nonsensical FF11 style storytelling right there =P

Cait Sith: What up bros! I know you guys have done all this cool sh** for the last 7 years, killing gods preventing the end of the world multiple times, Absolute Virtue, etc.... But um..... I don't know how to tell you this dudes.... Well you don't really exist! In the real world you're an undead fomor slave locked in an eternal war with the very first major storyline boss you beat like 6 years ago. BTW essentially that whole war is being fought for Odin's amusement, since he basically controls both sides. CRAZY right? Yea... so uh.... you have fun with that! Later bros!

But seriously. As for the end of that scene, maybe Bahamut being freed stirred the other primals and they popped up at the last moment and stopped him from using whatever flare he was charging. Obviously they wouldn't do this to help us, but stopping big B would still be in line with the self serving attitudes we've seen from Ifrit & Garuda. They can't take the all the aether and power of the crystals for themselves if big B blows the world up after all. Not to mention they would probably want to protect their beastmen followers from being destroyed as collateral damage anyway.

Where in the storyline/lore was this mentioned? I don't think we even know which race the Midgarsomr belongs.

Midgarsormr doesn't belong to a race, but he was summoned by the Dravnians. He was called The Guardian of the Lake, the lake being Silvertear lake. He fought and died protecting it. Not sure where the idea of Midgarsormr vs Bahamut came in lol
