If FFXIV got this stigma of encouraging homosexuality it could give SE a bad name, etc. They need to tread carefully to add it, which I personally hope they do. It's not a matter of morality it's a matter of how they want everyone to see SE as a whole.
Why would real world religions have any factor into what goes into this game? Technically, none of them should be playing this anyway, as our characters don't worship the same gods as their respective religions.
