I don't know if somewhere along the line of completing this quest or mayhap upon completion Louisoix says "OH! I forgot to mention that all of Eorzea was at risk of being destroyed by the summoning of the Twelve" but as far as I know the three of you are making stuff up.

To put it bluntly, Louisoix engraved the symbols of the Twelve patrons of Sharlavan in various potentially sacred stones across the land and we are to pray to them in a ritual manner so that they will save our ass. Doesn't this seem a lot easier and less risky than affronting the lunatic who has the power to control the lesser moon and bring it crashing down on our planet?

Starting at 6:45 you will see Thancred start talking about why summoning the 12 is dangerous.

Thancred : "These eyes will not be fooled - something weighs heavily on your mind.

If I were to hazard a guess, the prospect of entreating the succor of the selfsame beings you once slew seems less than attractive? Heh, I'll not deny it's ironic.

As you well know, aether is the source of all life. Bereft of its blessing, Eorzea would be naught but a dried-up husk of a realm.

By whatever name they are called, gods drink the land's aether for their sustenance. The Twelve are no different.

Summoning them would be tantamount to bleeding the life out of the land. Yet without their aid, Eorzea is most assuredly doomed.

Dalamud will fall, and the land will die. Even should aether still flow, life may never again blossom here.

We cannot allow that to come to pass.

Even as we move to stay Dalamud's descent, ever must we be mindful of the toll our actions take upon Eorzea's longevity. We spare the present at a cost to the future.

It will be no easy thing, this balancing act.

Yet we must see it through to the bitter end, no matter the hardship."

I think this is less about storyline and more about being angry over missed achievement points..

My favourite part in the patch notes was this:

    - The chocobo and goobbue mounts inside the city that are excited to a point of vanishing from thin air will calm down to a certain degree.
SE attempting some humour by rewording "- Fixed bug where mounts weren't displayed in towns.", which would be their normal approach.

My god you have been acting like a whiny bitch for 4 pages, how can anyone stand having a conversation with you? Even after you acknowledge that the points brought up were valid (summoning the twelve having side effects that at the very least will drain some life from the planet) you still complain about the choices SE made.

Aside from experiencing the storyline, why would you have wanted to complete Living on a Prayer so much that you would come here and scold SE for their storyline choices? Is it because you didn't get a Dalamud Horn? If they made Living on a Prayer a quest that you could do at any point in the storyline, they would have had to make it be a reward from beating Darnus, which you didn't do. So either way, you wouldn't have gotten it. If you don't care about the rewards, then you should welcome the changes. If it's for a different reason that I haven't thought of, please do tell.

The quest basically says the reason we wanted to defeat the primals is because they consume the aether of the planet. The 12 consume a whole lot more than the primals and this could leave the planet with no life left. I think the nuclear war example was pretty spot on. Louis knew this was a plan before hand, but didn't want to resort to it until a last resort.

If you read the Lodestone entry from this morning..sounds like things are going to get real in Mor Dhona the last two hours before the servers go down.

I really like the way they did that too. I hope they continue wording bug fixes in this way. Incorporate them into lore. Has any MMO done that before?

Why do any of this if it's not part of the final save? It amounts to admitting that all of this is meaningless. I would have much more appreciated they make Living on a Prayer available without having had to first defeat Van darnus before the final save...
It's a video game you realize right? You're supposed to defeat a challenge before progressing through the story. Removing the active participation component of it would make it a different type of media, called movies.
