The first time I prayed for Mobs I got an ATT boost, then I prayed again and got an ACC boost, I haven't noticed much since then, but there is for sure something going on with /pray
*I have ring and /living on a prayer

Yeah, this is weird. Happened to us on Hyperion, too... Seemed to be an AoE effect buff, regardless of party. Three in all.
Never got this buff before... Maybe they were messing around with stuff. We've been waiting for a respawn forever.
JP don't seem to catch on to the /pray thing either way, so I'm going to bed. :x

In that video only eight people prayed.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xm38I...ature=youtu.be
So read some of the thread... are people seriously taken in-game religion personally? I'm agnostic, but it IS just a game. I mean the story had us pray all over the damn world. Hey, believe what you will. In any case, just like in real life praying doesn't always "work."
Boyanh Watchfield spammed quite a bit though.
This suggests that either synchronized prayer is more effective than prayer en masse or that spamming /pray increases the odds of a successful "hit".
What we don't know that would help make this more conclusive?
- Were the eight praying in the same party?
- Were they all wearing their deity's ring?
- Did any or all of them do a pilgrimage to any of the twelve altars?
I think it's undeniable that praying does something but I think we're praying mainly to the RNG gods as Shougun mentioned.
I haven't heard of any people getting random buffs from not praying. I'm also assuming that people aren't inherently trying to deceive but that they are genuinely providing their results. While I may not agree entirely on what claims are made to the causation of events, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt regarding results. If it is just a set timer that's killing them off, the timer is just as random. Balmung has witnessed 2 out of 3 Bixies and a Seige Goobbue die from prayer spontaneously but the 3rd Bixie had to be taken down via fighting.
Judging by the posts in this forum and no conclusive control measures being taken I think we can conclude that ....

It either works or it doesn't. I'm overly amused however at how quickly this has turned into an argument closely resembling real life religion and prayer. We have one side feverishly supporting prayer and that it works and demanding they have proof, and the other side dismissing them, and chalking it all up to easily explained facts. It is humerus how personal people are taking it. You have to admit, it is rather funny to listen to people scream and rage on the forums about the power of prayer ^_^
*EDIT*
There is always the slim chance that the mods or GM's or what not are playing along, one shotting things when they see a bunch of people pray. It just doesn't seem like the in game mechanics are set up to support this.

First off let me say that I haven't felt the urge to participate in this event since the servers went down, much less due to the fact that I was never able to kill Deus Darnus and complete Living on a Prayer before...
However, I have been keeping up to date via these threads and although I haven't read the entirety of the posts something about this quote struck me as curious. Now I don't know if this has been tested nor if it has been brought up but you mentioned recieving 11+? buffs out of nowhere.
A lot of these posters indicate being blessed by buffs after /praying to the mobs if not killing them occasionally. So would it be so farfetched to think that each of The Twelve can bestow a unique AoE buff to advenurers? PErhaps there are a total of 12 buffs?
On a more important note, has anyone tried putting together an alliance of 12 players each with a guardian ring belonging to each of The Twelve? Perhaps a monster needs to be /prayed at simultaneously by twelve players equipped with all twelve rings?
Give it a shot. just 2 gils worth
As I take a break from fighting Deepvoid Sludges in Uldah right after all that Imperial Centurions at Grid...
here's another thought.
I remember faintly something YoshiP said about the key to surviving this onslaught involves the cooperation of all brave adventurers...
maybe the GMs have specific conditions as to effect mass prayer... something along the lines of... if they notice a concerted effort among adventurers to cooperate together, they'll "answer our prayers". That will explain situations where everyone stops to pray, and the mob falls. Likewise, it may be no use if only half prayed and half fought, that may mean everyone's just doing their own thing. But if somehow adventurers organise themselves, things will happen. Right now I think in most cases on our separate worlds... everyone's still their own man.
But I thank the kind souls who have (/raise)d me when I fall in battle!
Like it or not, we're pawns in this social experiment.
It's kinda fun for me though!
Yet another thought...
what if we left Uldah alone? What if we ignored all the calls for help from the various cities? Can the mobs destroy the cities?
Gee why are we defending the cities even?!
I like this argument. SE has managed to create a server wide discussion the acceptance of faith in a Final Fantasy. Kudos to them.
On one side you have the believers, on the other, the non believers.
Pst, we do know there isn't actually a god (or twelve) killing the mobs for us, you know? o_òIt either works or it doesn't. To add to the confusion, I completed living on a prayer last night. Each time there was a ?? mob up, when I prayed to one of the stones, it went poof within a few seconds of my /pray. Do the quest and get your ring if you haven't done so yet. While you're doing it, have a party/ls member tell you when a new (unclaimed) ?? mob is up and pray to each mark at that time. It seems to not work on non-?? mobs.
For those that claim praying to the mobs themselves is what killed them, do you know that there was not somebody praying to the marks at the same time? I ask this because we created a LS on Balmung for this purpose, and praying to the mobs themselves (even mass praying and timed praying) had no effect at all. Things changed as soon as I started praying to the marks.

I suppose you went all round Eorzea praying to all 12 shrines... or did you just pray to the two ones at Uldah? The other ones that are easier to get to with just a teleport are the shrines at Gridania and Limsa Lominsa, the rest needs some travelling and worse... clearing of mobs. Maybe I'll try just the two at Uldah should those ?? mobs appear. To add to the confusion, I completed living on a prayer last night.
