Alpha First Look: Video 1 - Character Creation

THANK YOU. Se this is brilliant. The design is beautiful, and has re-kindled my enthusiam and optimism for 2.0.

I know its only a video, but thank you for taking the time to make character creation such a professional and visually stimulating experience.

My thoughts:

Pros:

- The opening title screen and first character creator backgrounds are MUCH better looking than the lame white "blank canvas" look that a lot of the recent FF titles have been going with lately. Doesn't have anything to do with character creation itself, though...

- The FF prelude background music is BEAUTIFUL. Props to whoever made it! Again though, nothing to do with character creation...

- Ability to toggle on/off clothes and see emotes

- Tail length for Miqotes

- More voices

- Tattoo options

Cons:

- The max bust size is still WAAAAAY too small. Being serious here.

- I would've liked to see more RGB/saturation sliders instead of swatches for all the color options.

- No "build" option for females. Also, all the existing build options for males looked muscular; no options to make "fat" or "heavy" characters.

- Not enough face or hairstyle options, including facial hair for males

- Can't adjust tattoo positions or size

- Too many preset options for various settings, not enough sliders to precisely adjust things



Overall, it's a start, but I don't see much improvement yet over what we originally had. In my opinion, Yoshi-P and his team need to take a few pointers from PSO2's character customization.

I agree, the cons are really heavy in the balance of character creation.
I seriously hope they'll change for sliders and have more face/hairstyle.

The character creation have to be to par with current MMORPGs, it's a huge turn off for me when I start a new game and the character creation sucks. Imagine a new player's reaction?

I like that you can make more masculine midlanders. Mine will probably still be boyish-looking, but at least it adds to the individuality.

Yeah, this is one was definitely a plus. Although I personally would've preferred them showing the customization on a more bishonen character since that's what I would be making, we already know that the game can create those from 1.0. I liked how they really used the character to show off a lot of the unique characterizations like tattoos etc.

Why would you want RGB sliders instead of a carefully handpicked color palette (which does leave a lot of freedom anyway)? So eager to see people go around with lime green skin and pink hair?
We need presets, if we care about a consistent visual style

This. Plus its much easier for the game to handle something that it knows can be done through presets rather than have a million variables done from sliders causing the game to get bugged on.

It looks incredible, very smooth and fast. I just can't wait for them to release the character creator!

I hope there will be more face/hairstyles available in beta/launch though.
