Alpha First Look: Video 1 - Character Creation

My thoughts:

Pros:

- The opening title screen and first character creator backgrounds are MUCH better looking than the lame white "blank canvas" look that a lot of the recent FF titles have been going with lately. Doesn't have anything to do with character creation itself, though...

- The FF prelude background music is BEAUTIFUL. Props to whoever made it! Again though, nothing to do with character creation...

- Ability to toggle on/off clothes and see emotes

- Tail length for Miqotes

- More voices

- Tattoo options

Cons:

- The max bust size is still WAAAAAY too small. Being serious here.

- I would've liked to see more RGB/saturation sliders instead of swatches for all the color options.

- No "build" option for females. Also, all the existing build options for males looked muscular; no options to make "fat" or "heavy" characters.

- Not enough face or hairstyle options, including facial hair for males

- Can't adjust tattoo positions or size

- Too many preset options for various settings, not enough sliders to precisely adjust things



Overall, it's a start, but I don't see much improvement yet over what we originally had. In my opinion, Yoshi-P and his team need to take a few pointers from PSO2's character customization.

I think SE have limitation in character model ( eg. gear and everything ). Because all of the characters using pre-modeled wire frame for each piece of armor ( body, leg, head etc ) and some model are shared together ( Hyu female <=> Miqote female body, Hyu male <=> miqote male, lalafell male = female ).

Right now if they want to create new set of gears, they need to create model for all the races .. and I bet that's the time consuming and costly process.

And with the above design, it's impossible to let player select build option like you said...
But for me, these high-detail beautiful-modeling gears are keeping me for playing this game. ( You can see how low-detail of PSO2 gears is compare to FFXIV in you link you provided )

I agree, the cons are really heavy in the balance of character creation.
I seriously hope they'll change for sliders and have more face/hairstyle.

The character creation have to be to par with current MMORPGs, it's a huge turn off for me when I start a new game and the character creation sucks. Imagine a new player's reaction?
